His dad Lance was Pro at Bishop for quite a few years...

Cairns played professional cricket in the North of England and in a game for Bishop Auckland in 1981 he scored 174 against Glostrup, a Danish National League touring team. His innings lasted 64 balls, with 15 sixes and 16 fours, his century having occupied 36 balls (38 minutes) and his 150, 52 balls (58 minutes).

I remember watching Lance play for Durham with Chris in attendance.The same with Wasam Raja and his brother,Rameez.Possibly at Chester Le Street.

Read that he’s suffered an ‘aortic dissection’. That’s so sad and really unfortunate for someone as young and healthy as him.

Goes without saying I really hope he can pull through.
 
In an era of superb cricketers, generally far better than those of today imo, he was a brilliant allrounder.

He could hit the ball f***ing miles, long before nearly every batsman turned a glorified slogger like we see today. And he could bowl rapid too. He would have been well suited by the modern format of the game.
