Anyone on here at Roker Park 1963 to see last game of season v Chelsea. Win and we get promoted to Div 1. But we lost. 0-1 via a sloppy goal from Tommy Harmer, in off his bollocks past a despairing Monty. I was 9 and was the first time I'd seen the lads lose and the first time I had seen hundreds of grown men crying!!!!!
All good the following year.

The season I started following Sunderland, an early warning sign of the misery to come! We went up the following season of course, so that particular dose of misery was short lived...

Umpteen promotions and relegations since, cup final losses, a cup final win, Coventry cheating us twice, Checkatrade Trophy loss and win, play off losses and wins, quite a roller coaster, life is rarely dull for a Sunderland supporter....then this season, wow.

I hope the downs of the ups and downs are behind us for a few seasons yet, but without a doubt (in my opinion) we have our best ever owner, our best ever manager and our best ever player in all those years, I sincerely hope that we can start looking forward to a number of comfortable and improving seasons in the premier league for many years to come, but that we stay grounded, humble and hard working.

No mate, but I remember Quinn making mince meat out of Marcel Desailly in the 4-1 win in the 99/00 season. Hang that performance in the Louvre.
 
I was there, Harmer was playing as Bobby Tambling their golden boy was injured.Harmer didn't know much about the goal in a goalmouth scramble. In off his thigh. We tried everything to score and the packed crowd were left frustrated and angry. The Roker Roar was deafening as usual but the journey back on the packed South Hetton bus was pergutory and hardly anyone spoke. The impact on this 13 year old left a long impression and loss of appetite for that weekend. 62 years later I can still remember that gut wrenching disappointment. Those jammy bastards. In those days we never got beat at home.

I was in the Clock Stand. I remember it was a gale-force wind that day, and a corner took a deflection of Harmer, and the wind carried over Monty.

Sorry it was first I attended solo. Was taken to a match earlier - may not have even been that season - cannot remember a lot about it.

Born October ‘63 so no… glad I missed one major disappointment though.
