Cheif Scout gone - Nixon

I get the impression staff at the club involved in the scouting and player recruitment side of things have been greasing their palms by dealing with certain agents. This has been an issue from what I can remember even back to the Lee Congerton days when our squad of 23 seemed to all be a client of one of 5 agents.
Charlie Methven on the Roker Report podcast earmarked the agent problem and although he didn’t explicitly lay it out like I’ve done above, you can infer from it that it is not far from the truth.
This is pure speculation - but I would hasten a guess if the story that the scout was sacked after handing the list of targets over, Stewart and Charlie have noticed that these players are clients of particular agents. Agents have been a key detriment of the club over the last decade. The figures show it, the amount we pay out borders extortion.

While we absolutely shouldn't let ourselves be taken advantage of and make the mistakes of the past, Stewart and Methven need to handle this carefully. The higher up the leagues you go, and the more foreign business you do, the more complex the agent relationships get. Allardyce has agents he likes dealing with but he gets results. So did Ferguson for that matter.

Talking tough about agents is well and good, but they're there and they're getting paid. The best antidote to it is to know what you need and have a good network a for identifying players. If there's an agent involved that makes you uncomfortable, move on to target number 2.

Bollocks drain the Fookin swamp, we're no longer a soft touch......Will still be plenty of agents/players dying to join us.....

I completly agree but we have to ensure that we do background checks on players and act on them before we buy. We don't need to know every detail of their lives but we need to know if they have a "reputation". How we came for example to employ a player who clearly had a serious drink problem and even had previous trouble with the law because of it is beyond me.

Couldn't agree more.

Aye but we didn't have any problems shifting Jim . Wasn' t he famously sold to the Forest chairman in the middle of a game at Roker Park? We weren't even playing Forest at the time their chairman was just a guest . Anyway Jim would at least wake up for about ten minutes of each game and could be a match winner.

He did have a very serious drink problem though. I think that he actually went on to own or manage a pub in Glasgow after finishing with football and that resulted in him having to have two liver transplants before he died. God knows who let him have a pub they probably thought that it would give him an interest.

Gibson on the other hand

See this thread message exchange... towards the end

Neale McDermott

Just shows blue boxes with question marks in them, mate. Can't see the attachments. I've seen the ones on twitter (if they are the same ones) where he's twisting he hasn't been told by the owner and Donald replies he's busy with a new manager and existing player but would call him this afternoon, even though he's (McDermott) already spoken to Methven and asks why he needs to be told by them both. Before a mag tells him he will get done for wrongful dismissal (fuck knows how he's come to that conclusion).
