Cheif Scout gone - Nixon

This ^^^ Fresh start from top to bottom, it's well over due. The club has been rewarding failure far to long and I for one will be glad of the last remaining remnants of the Short era seen gone. It's never nice for anyone to lose their job's but unfortunately the position we're in we have to cut accordingly.

I've been supportive of Short and I think he's tried to do the right thing and has invested but the more that comes out the more he seems to have been like the absentee landlord and the people he has left in charge and not controlled have taken the piss.

Totally agree there - it just hasn't produced what it should have and the Pickford money which we won't have most of it yet has skewed everything to look rosier than it is.

I posted this on another Academy thread a few weeks ago. I know the scout that cover North West Durham - he is in his 70's and relies on his car to get about. He gets paid a mileage rate by the club to drive his car, but no wage, he makes money if a kid makes it to the U23s and more if he gets into the first team. The scout had a fall and badly bruised his ribs, arm and side so he could not drive - the club would not give him any help or even physio so for quite a time he was laid up and no-one from the academy was covering NW Durham. In that time the Mags picked up three potential kids. Because he was laid up the club tried to get out of paying him his fee which he gets if a kid he puts in gets to the first team, which I believe was 3k.

Fairly standard treamtrea of scouts within the football industry for years it seems.....

It's just what the club has needed for years now, a total clear out from top to bottom. It's not nice letting people go but those at the club need to be there because they're good at their positions. How many knew we had a scout, better still a chief scout, one who is in charge of one or more scouts?

The evidence of the last two seasons, at first team level at least, would seem to suggest our scouts were shit. Might be an overly simplistic view but I'd make development of the scouting network a huge priority.
