Ched Evans...

Just shows how decided opinions are on this, nobody mentioning whether he good enough to play for us just his off field exploits.

For that reason alone I'm out, it's not helped with the recent news regarding the physio and young boys as well.
It's obviously not a good idea as you can see fans are so divided but it's an interesting rabbit hole to go down of what's acceptable.

His behaviour. I’m not sure why “not a convicted criminal” is the very low bar we’re setting in terms of the type of people we want at our club.

It’s true to say his conviction was overturned on appeal, but it’s equally true that in the course of doing so some really unsavoury behaviour was revealed.

He travelled to a hotel having been made aware by his mate that he had a girl there. Said girl had been picked up in a kebab shop where CCTV showed her unable to stay on her feet, pissed. Having then had sex with her, he was so comfortable with what he’d done that rather than leave the hotel through the main entrance, he left via a fire exit instead.

None of that renders him “guilty” to the criminal standard. It does, however, make him the sort of person that I want nowhere near a SAFC shirt. We have one of the highest % of female ST holders in English football, including lots of young girls. Being in a situation where if he scored and you have young girls cheering him would make me feel very uncomfortable.

Ex-bloody-actly

Let’s hope sanity prevails

It's a reputation thing.
Ours was shot to shit after Johnson, Gibson, "The Rotten Core" and poor management (Bain, Byrne) etc.

We've been developing some good PR and a good relationship between fans and club has developed again. The last thing we need is to bring a human can of worms into the mix.
It's bad enough some morons still sing paedo chants. We don't need rapist (albeit acquitted) chants too. It's a difficult one, but I think we'll alienate a lot of fans if we signed him.
It's like when we took on Di Canio. A lot of people turned away when he joined us. Evans would arguably be a more controversial appointment

Reputations take ages to build, but seconds to destroy.

Regardless of everything that went on with him, i dont think he is good enough and if we do get him i'd hope it was as our 2nd striker signing on a loan until end of the season.

He is probably League 1 level at best and 30 years old so wouldnt want to give him too much of a contract and would worry about how well he would do in Championship if we were to go up.

As a 3rd choice behind Wyke and another signing and a deal until the summer wouldn't be too bad

if that's the case, he definitely should not be coming regardless of his "past"

He’s not coming here lads just let the thread die, or move it on the SMB or parsnip as this is no longer anything to do with football.

When he played here there were no rapist chants. When the incident my then 30 year old football mad married daughter with two young daughters of her own read the trial transcripts and said there was no way he should have been convicted. But still a horrible incident he should not have been involved in. Imo ha has done his time let him get on with life whether at SAFC or elsewhere.

Would rip someone’s arm off for Evans right now as it looks like no one is coming in. This thread has been an embarrassment, people getting all outraged for the sake of it.

As Ive said, you tend to find its actually blokes who are outraged with stuff like this whereas women seem much more logical about it and dont really give a shit.

Why does expressing concern over bringing in a questionable character in Ched Evans being outraged?

It's reasonable to have reservations about bringing in a player with his baggage and background. Especially considering our recent history and the attempt to clean up the image of the club.

He was found not guilty at retrial, but that doesn't excuse his behaviour that night. He's not the type of character I'd want at my football club, due to how he's behaved in the past. I also feel like the new regime have tried to focus on bringing the fans, players and board room back together. So IMO, it'd be absolutely ridiculous to do something that is do divisive at this time.

Regardless of how bi-polar the internet is in 2019, just because you express a concern - it doesn't mean you are 'outraged'.

from your sample size of 1 ?
Its not even the fact hes clearly done something highly questionable. For many, like myself, we dont want the sh*t that follows him around. We havent even shaken off the Johnson stuff yet.

nee fan of the found not guilty mate but if we stopped signing players because they were love rats we'd've missed out on jermaine there
