Charles Eagles & Sons closing down

Old Charles died last year, so if there is nobody in the family with the heart to give it a go, then this will happen I'm afraid.
I know the lad who had Hills bookstore - there wasn't anyone in the family who wanted to take it on when he retired - so he sold up.

Sad really, as Eagles was an excellent shop.

Sad day but inevitable.

There'll come a time when the only independent shops in town centres will be hairdressers (doesn't seem to be a franchise for that) and take aways.

Other than that, every town centre will be pretty much identical

Ah well, I shave my own head at home, it's just the only type of establishment that wherever i go in the north east, there always seems to be plenty of these beauty salon things for lasses, and I always assume they are independently owned

Aye specialist places, its good to see them when I do, but I imagine it's a real struggle owning an independent record shop or the likes, outside of big cities

You're right ,everyone needs a barber etc so they have took off a bit being something that with a few hours training you can do when you need to make a living .Plenty empty shops to fill

Aye its a strange one . I Was up Scotland at some castle and the place it was was one of those 1 street jobs with a pub and a spar and a cosy model shop .The shop was chocker with cool stuff, die cast and railway stuff etc and had about 8 people in midweek buying gear .

Shame, happy memories and a lot of receipts from the place. But amazed its lasted this long to be fair.
Town centre won't be the same without it.

My dad was a photographer and we knew him well. Sad news. Like already said I don’t know how it’s kept going so long

Spent hundreds of quid in there over the years - but haven't been in for ten years. Still a shame it's closing though.

Our old telephone number only differed from the shop's number by the last digit. We were so sick of people getting the wrong number that in the end when they asked if their photos had been developed or if their camera had been fixed we just used to say yes, pop in anytime.

Made me smile anyway.

Use to buy stuff from here in the past , but recently just used it for photos for passports , visas, and driving licenses, shame to see it go.
