Channel 4 losing test cricket

In particular the ashes. How damaging has that been to the sport? When flintoff, Vaughan and the boys won the ashes there was national celebration but now a lot of casual fans dont even know its on let alone everyone else.

It's on Channel 5, so nowt different. Unless I'm missing something. As in 2005 in wasn't on Channel 4 live was it?

It certainly was. Highlights are one thing but having it live on Channel 4 was absolutely superb and gave cricket a massive lift.
 
Channel 4 were the ones who brought Snicko and Hawkeye into the game, arguably the biggest change in 200 years.

I thought it was a bit of a kick in the balls when they were dumped for Murdoch. It was clear they were used as a stop-gap to stop an outcry of The Ashes going straight from the BBC to Sky.
 
C4 were excellent for cricket in this country, far better than anyone could have expected really.

However, Sky have the money and cash is usually king.
 
BBC coverage was a disgrace back in the day, they treated the sport with contempt when they had the monopoly/rights.

You'd get to a really exciting passage of play then hear Sue Barker say "we are cutting away for the 3.15 from Uttoxeter" :shock: or an hours worth of Tennis from Queens.

C4 cut to horseracing too at times (but you could usually get the cricket on Film4 during the interruption).

I agree C4 were far better than the BBC. My last memory of cricket on the BBC is Tony Lewis droning on, Benaud apart their coverage was very dull.

I think so as well, I'm still surprised Mark Nicholas has been nabbed by Sky, I think he's excellent.

Seems to do a lot of work overseas, possibly channel 9 in Australia so he might be happier spending all winter in Australia rather than touring with the Sky team. And I think I'd find him too hard to bear if he was on for a full half an hour instead of just a few minutes of highlights. Everything's too wonderful and romanticised when he's blathering on.
 
I miss benaud, I started watching cricket fully in 2004 saw the odd day in 2003 on sky. But benauds insight and passion of the game was just infectious as a kid.
