Didn't say though that did I? There's only so much money you can spend and area you can cover with scouting. Durham's is predominantly focused on the Northeast, Cumbria, Scotland and Durham MCCU.

Whereas saying we are a club with a policy of preferential treatment for locally born players, despite there being no evidence for this and it being a bit 'dodgy;, is a "good take". :lol:

Whilst I’m not looking to get into a tête-à-tête on this, it’s an odd stat to pull up to prove either way that there’s a ‘local first’ policy.

There isn’t, of course. But then @The Rat never suggested there was.

What does ‘exist’ though is the Don Robson quote, where he proudly stated upon our acceptance into the First Class game that he’d be able to help realise the dream of having a lad from Burnopfield stride out at CLS to bat in a Test Match for England. Or words to that effect.

Nobody can question just how effective we’ve been at giving North East lads a massively enhanced chance of playing for England.

But back to the original point - it’s totally understandable when you consider both Don Robson’s comments and our record of producing international cricketers that all things being equal talent wise, members/supporters would be keen to prioritise local talent over bringing in outsiders.
 
Borthwick 13 runs from 15 balls ..... that's very quick scoring for him so early in an innings and I think this is behind his poor FC form. He's changed his batting style to be better in limited overs and worse in FC. Well, I think so. I'd prefer the old Borthwick back.

Nah, he's saying local lads should basically get cut more slack if they aren't playing well.

No employer could reasonably justify that practice.

I'm bored of this discussion now.

SB is on point here anyway. He's looked much better whenever he has tried to be positive, following his return.

Many would agree with him. It’s actually been borne out many times before to good effect too though.

Stoneman and Jennings most recently are an example of two lads who were given far more time to develop than they would’ve had at several other counties. Both went on to repay that faith by winning us honours and playing for England.

Giving local lads a fair(er) crack of the whip is in our DNA. Our modus operandi if you will.

Tea observations:

Worcestershire’s appealing is really getting on my tits now. I understand they’re desperate for wickets, but the appeal by D’Oliveira when he struck Badger’s pads was embarrassing. In fact it was more celebration than appeal, as he ran down the track in an almost entitled manner, giving the impression it would be an insult NOT to raise the finger. From my perspective the ball appeared to have pitched comfortably outside leg.

Finch (I think) had a similar moment, a huge appeal to a delivery which just didn’t look close to being out. Up to now, I reckon there’ve been 5 hearty appeals and none of them looked remotely out.

Pitch still looks a belter like, I wouldn’t fancy being in the Worcestershire tea room at present. We really should be getting 400 as an absolute minimum from here.
