CC : Surrey v Durham

Tough day for Durham but never gave up. Bas did well leading the attack when really he is the 4th seamer in a 5 man attack. Parky bowled as he does in a defensive safe manner. Holder looked decent at times and the two teenagers kept at it even when they were tiring.
Considering there playing an oppostion who are more than likely going to win their third consecutive championship and where focused and motivated today it was a decent effort.

Sending out a night watchman is my absolute pet hate in cricket. What suddenly makes a number 10 or 11 more equipped to deal with the new ball than an opener FFS?!
Indeed but the batsman has been in the field all day and since our tail is 4 deep.

We really need our batsman to score a good 400+ to get something out of the game. If McKinney had got out with a tired shot after being in field all day in them 2 overs that would be a disaster.

Losing Parky and even Hogg tonight wouldn't really make much difference to our chances.

Its a well reasoned argument but I still disagree 😉

1) If a top order batter is too tired to bat out 2 overs they shouldn't be a top order batter

2) Tail enders don't have the technique to face a fresh bowler with a new ball so you're effectively gifting them 1 or 2 wickets when they could have hung around longer against tired bowlers with a 60 over ball

3) Surrey have got an instant confidence boost and we're likely to be 2 down in no time in the morning. Confidence and momentum are huge in sport.

4) Lees now has to try and build some sort of partnership with Hogg in the morning, stunting any sort of momentum we may have had when we took their 10th wicket.

I do agree with you btw.

Just a bit devils advocate. Though I do appreciate the very well reasoned post, which really does kibosh my alternate viewpoint.

Pivotal morning session which hopefully Durham negotiate with no more than 3 wickets down and puts them into a position at stumps of a lead of 200 ish 🤞

I fear the worst now. Shame in a way after we've stuck to it reasonably well but just shows at this level you need everyone on top of their game throughout. 2 or 3 good sessions all well and good but one bad session or spell and the game's gone.
