CC : Somerset v Durham

We’re already in the shite. I’m absolutely fuming at the way Essex threw their game away.

Handshakes at Trent Bridge, really odd that Notts haven’t even tried to chase the runs given they never lost a wicket and it looks flat as owt.
Positive thoughts. We will not lose to either Lancashire or Kent so we will be ok. With the new signings next season onwards and upwards

Remaining fixtures for the season:

Worcs (134) : Warwicks(H),Hants(A), Lancs(H)
Warwicks (132) : Worcs(A),Essex(H),Notts(A)
Durham (130): Lancs(H),Surrey(A),Kent(H)
Notts (116): Essex(A),Kent(A),Warwicks(H)
Lancs (106): Durham(A),Somerset(H),Worcs(A)

We are far from safe and goodness knows what our bowling attack is going to be for the last three games.

If Bedders and Ackers are back that should enable us to get 3 draws which will guarantee safety.
I've no doubt North will be seeking a replacement for Wagner.

Is Coggers injured or just not selected @GordonMuchallNo1Fan?

Just listened to Campbell about the day 3 farce, he said he has to be careful what he says but stated it was "unacceptable" and rightly stated it got darker (despite what was umpire told me that it was getting lighter which was a bullshit excuse). "our batters couldn't see the seam of the ball and common sense has to come into it, it cost us"

he's absolutely spot on, he wasn't at all happy as I mentioned when the call was made.

I'm glad he's come out and said that as I sums up the same feelings as me and my wife, we struggled to follow the ball for those 13 overs.

I'm convinced Somerset "persuaded" those umpires to get out there in unacceptable conditions. Not just at the end of day 3 but on the final day as well.

It is obviously in Somerset's interest to win to keep pace with Surrey for the title. I wonder if Campbell is thinking the same.

Points deduction incoming.

are the readings from the light meter recorded? assume every umpire uses the same one with the same settings
I did wonder this but after the excuse he gave me I genuinely couldn't be arsed to engage further as his excuse absolutely stunk. Not a single person I spoke to during those 13 overs or who left and I spoke to the day after believed it got brighter at 6.05pm-6.45pm. what I did find interesting also was between those 13 overs they didn't once check the light. From where we were sat you could see a lot of shadows on the wicket which in my view is unacceptable

are there any good umpires

As I understand it the light meter is in the stumps/bails and the umpire's instrument simply displays that reading. The contentious issue is that there's no absolute figure ruling fitness for play. It's up to the individual umpires at each individual game to decide on the issue. Once they've made the ruling that particular reading remains in force for the remainder of the game.
I think the issue was the umpires should have suspended play long before they did. Borthwick complained before the cessation that the fielders were having difficulty sighting the ball. Those umpires know Borthwick is an honest lad-they should have heeded his concerns.
