CC : Leicestershire v Durham

36 points is a handy lead with only 6 matches left and other results have softened the blow somewhat

I was really surprised to get in from work and discover we had batted on this morning. I absolutely didn't think we would do that. We must have been really worried about the short boundary, but it doesn't look as though Leics had a go at chasing it really. I had a feeling they wouldn't. Their body language yesterday was very hang dog. They looked like a side who just wanted to escape with something..... that something being fortuitously moving to second in the table, so they'll be very pleased with the outcome, I imagine

They were never gonna chase 400+ in 85 overs or whatever we set them especially on a day where weather was always going to be in play.

Its not a great decision with hindsight but hey ho

It’s mental to think Leicestershire are second in the table after the week they’ve had.

For Durham, big phase of the season coming up shortly, after the last two T20 group games are ticked off we’ve got a run of three County Championship games in 15 days (from the start of the first to the start of the third).

Monday 10 July - Gloucestershire (h)
Wednesday 19 July - Derbyshire (a)
Tuesday 25 July - Yorkshire (a)

There’s a very realistic opportunity amongst all of that to secure promotion before the 50 over campaign begins.

It’s imperative we get Coughlin and Carse back to fitness for that spell, hopefully De Leede will be done with his international commitments and maybe even Potts will be relieved of his.

Either way, it’s still an exciting time to be a Durham supporter.

Wonder what Potts availability is

I could see him playing for England now actually

Not like us this season thought it was negative to bat on. Then when we could not bowl the main 2 seamers pitch looked flat.

Our injuries are catching up to us hopefully Carse is back for next game.

Think it was fair enough like, was literally a handful of overs, didn’t make any difference in the end we weren’t getting handscomb out

Said at the time I didn't understand it. When's the last time a team chased 350 at Grace Road? I assumed the coach and captain thought the wicket was still good or it was more important to make the game safe than push for the win

They did recently chase down nearly 400 v Yorks, mind, plus we had a v short boundary on one side. That said, I was still surprised we didn’t declare overnight, but I know bugger all 😁

The finishing post is in sight probably earlier in the season they would gave declared. But the safety of a draw and still making that lead bigger was probably to much to risk even if it was unlikely.

it had no impact on the game like, we couldnt get hamscomb out, not sure what 4 more overs would have done
