CC : Leicestershire v Durham

Far too many games in recent memory where we’ve had the opposition 7/8/9 down and couldn’t get over the line. We had 20 overs at their 9th wicket pair. Frustrating.

Missing a few of our bowlers and even the ones we got on loan got injured!

Also missing sections of yesterday and today due to weather.

It happens

Draw is a draw and we take home 13 points and extend our lead at the top of the table to 36 points. Unlucky not to win but extending our lead is a great outcome. Good 4 days here, good cricket & good craic. Well done Durham. Time to head home. All the best folks until the next game
Safe trip back. Would have snatched your hand off to be in this position at the start of the season.

Another very good performance, ďominated but as is the way over the last couple of seasons we just can't quite get the last 10 second innings wickets. Cooke last time, Handscombe today. No damage done and as we've extended our lead, confidence maybe restored after disappointment in the 2020s. Just need a settled bowling attack, at the moment the'yre coming from all over. Onwards and upwards.

36 points is a handy lead with only 6 matches left and other results have softened the blow somewhat

I was really surprised to get in from work and discover we had batted on this morning. I absolutely didn't think we would do that. We must have been really worried about the short boundary, but it doesn't look as though Leics had a go at chasing it really. I had a feeling they wouldn't. Their body language yesterday was very hang dog. They looked like a side who just wanted to escape with something..... that something being fortuitously moving to second in the table, so they'll be very pleased with the outcome, I imagine

this is a very good point actually. We started this match with arguably the weakest bowling attack by some distance that we've had all season and on a flat deck with a shite ball, came within 2 wickets of beating the side who are now in second place behind us.

Everyone can bat now like, harder than it used to be. Outstanding innings by handscomb deserves credit

It’s mental to think Leicestershire are second in the table after the week they’ve had.

For Durham, big phase of the season coming up shortly, after the last two T20 group games are ticked off we’ve got a run of three County Championship games in 15 days (from the start of the first to the start of the third).

Monday 10 July - Gloucestershire (h)
Wednesday 19 July - Derbyshire (a)
Tuesday 25 July - Yorkshire (a)

There’s a very realistic opportunity amongst all of that to secure promotion before the 50 over campaign begins.

It’s imperative we get Coughlin and Carse back to fitness for that spell, hopefully De Leede will be done with his international commitments and maybe even Potts will be relieved of his.

Either way, it’s still an exciting time to be a Durham supporter.
