Starts tomorrow, the return of proper cricket!! Only for one game though, which is another example of idiotic scheduling - one game sandwiched in the middle of the T20 campaign.

The next time we play red ball cricket will signal the beginning of the end of the season, with a run of 6 Championship games across late August and September to close out the year.

I think there must be some age old agreement in place mind, which states this week has to have red ball cricket - possibly to coincide with festival season, as this game takes place at Cheltenham.

Stokes and Wood are available, a rare luxury, I expect Colly to play after resting his Achilles in the T20 last night. Pringle is playing for Brandon today so I guess we can count him out.

The addition of the two England lads should really give us an advantage, even if they’ve not particularly shone for us in Championship cricket since Stokes’ bowled us to safety in 2016 at home to Surrey. Suppose it’s about time they made an impact, Wood especially will be keen to stake his claim for the Test team.

Wood seemed to find his groove in the last ODI, hopefully he'll carry that into this game. He looked a bit down on confidence before then, not his usual chirpy self.

Gloucestershire squad:

Dent (c), Hammond, Bracey, Roderick, J.Taylor, Howell, Higgins, Noema-Barnett, Miles, Payne, M.Taylor, Drissell.

Interesting read on their official site about their injury situation too -

Yep. Fair play to them on that. Also interesting to hear about trying not to overload bowlers at this stage.

We should be able to put a good side out on the park.

Latham to captain, colly misses out due to his achilles, not surprising really given he missed the T20. Richardson returns to the squad.

As strong a side as we could possibly field that. Exception maybe of Potts/Carse and I’m surprised Weighell hasn’t been recalled. Probably Stokes keeping him out.

Harding it appears has overtaken Pringle in the spinning stakes.

Anyway, I’m glad I’m not picking the side. I imagine they’ll want a well balanced side, but in truth, we could end up with a team full of batsmen - Coughlin and Harding could miss out and we’d still have a wealth of bowling talent.

For me:

Latham
Steel
Smith
Clark
Stokes
Harte
Richardson
Poynter
Wood
Salisbury
Rushworth

Also, Rimmington rested?

Gloucestershire won the toss and are batting
