CC :: Glamorgan v Durham

brandon

Striker
Starting Thursday.

Hosts expect to have Neser and Labuschagne in their side, whilst I can see us going in unchanged from last week - with the caveat of course being whether or not FTECB allow us to play Potts for a third game in a row.

So far this season we’ve lost a game we should’ve been out of sight in and won a game that the opposition should never have given us a sniff of. Glamorgan are many peoples pick for promotion, along with Yorkshire, but they’ve only played one game so far (which they drew) so there’s no sample size to call form. Last season they came third, missing out on promotion by just 9 points, but in the two games against us we had their number. They were one of the few sides who we managed to take 20 wickets against in the home win and away we would’ve been big favourites to beat them too had there not been over 100 overs lost to rain.

I expect it’ll be a tough assignment based on what we know, but there does seem to be a renewed confidence around the club. Batting looks as strong/deep as it did since before the rape and pillage by FTECB, we’ve finally got a reliable spin bowler and of course there’s plenty to get excited about in the seam bowling corps. One thing I will say though, is I do feel like we could do with getting a fourth seamer into the lineup. I think there’ll be times this season where it’ll be useful, one of those times was probably on Saturday.

Ha’way Durham!

Tough game. Possibly our toughest of the season? A win would be fantastic but to be honest I’d not be too disappointed with a draw.

Hope Potts does play, I think he needs game time. I didn't quibble with Carse being rested given his history of injury but Potts is different and he's not guaranteed to be chosen for the Tests as per the end of last summer, a situation where he doesn't play for Durham and doesn't play for England, at least in red ball cricket, is possible.

Game time absolutely - I thought he looked like he was getting into a proper rhythm in the second innings of the Worcs game.

Yes,the only way that Potts is going to return to last season's standards is by more bowling. Can't understanding this " resting" when there are no test matches until early June.

I wonder if this loss of form is through the England bowling coaches tinkering with his action whilst he was touring in winter. They've certainly got history for that sort of thing.

Flip side to that is yhe second innings against sussex was the first time carse has looked good enough to play for england in years

Interesting selection decision for Cambo/Badger if Potts is available. Do they go with 4 front line seamers and a front line spinner or stick to what they have with Bushnell as the 5th bowler to fill in a few overs if required.
I think Kuhnemann is going to bowl a lot of overs both attacking and doing a holding job.

I’m biased because I want to see him play, but I do agree with you - Potts showed last season that he was a hell of a lot more durable than Carse, that’s not a slight on Carse, some sportsmen are just made differently to others. There’s also the theory that rhythm is important for a seam bowler too and he’s had two games, it looks like he’s finding some form and now they’re (potentially) going to rest him?!

Potts is definitely more durable than the likes of Carse and Wood. He is more if a Rushy bowler technically.

Only used 3 seam bowlers last week too, seems a little thin on experience if Potts and Carse are missing, Raine leading an attack doesnt fill me with confidence, this will be where we miss Rushy this season

The plan would be for Raine and De Leede to be the 3rd and 4th with Potts, Carse and Glover handling new ball duties.

That's a very decent attack, but we haven't been able to put it out yet.

Coughlin?

For the 3 or 4 games a season he's fit, absolutely.
If you take a little look at de leedes figures on cricinfo i think its a stretch to suggest hes definitely a better option than coggers or bushnell

Baz is a batting all rounder, you'd expecting him to bat at 6 and be 4th seamer, whereas Coggers is primarily a bowler.

I would love Coggs to have a full season, but does anyone really expect that to happen?

Durham Twitter has the squad listed. No Bushnell. Potts in the 13.
Suspect Potts will be rested, but sure it would be a good test to bowl at Labuschagne ??
Trevaskis in 13 but almost certain to be left out.
