CC : Essex v Durham

Spinners: competent yes, threatening absolutely not. I‘m more disappointed with Essex’s approach. 4 an over at start of the day and haven’t showed 1 bit of intent to try and win and has created this snoozefest

I agree yeah.
It was more of an oddity in the home game than here, but I agree with the sentiment that it’s mental that they’ve not shown a little bit more interest in chasing the target.

Yep. Could always have shut up shop later

Durham would absolutely have tried to chase this, and I’d have supported that decision

I don’t get it, they’ve seen Surrey absolutely obliterate Worcestershire, thus moving further away from them atop the league and have made zero attempt whatsoever to even ask the question.

I was critical of them up here, they were so boring but this takes the piss on their home patch and chasing the title against a newly promoted side. We'll all be moaning about Surrey when they win it in September, when in truth the near competition (Essex) are incredibly boring and negative in their pursuit of trying to win games/make a game of things. Meanwhile Surry keep winning............

Guarentee they'll be moaning later in the season IF a team don't want to "make a game of things".

Piss poor

That was painful but our bowlers weren't really threatening and I can't think of a reason why De Leede wasn't used more.

I presume Coggers will be available for the next match and maybe it's time to start thinking of introducing a youngster, whoever is showing more potential. Stan or Ollie or Hogg.

A certain Ben Stokes will be playing on Sunday, apparently he's useful with the ball

Big points haul anyway.

I walked over to have a look at the pitch at tea on Monday, it was flat, shiny and smooth. Didn't look like a result pitch at all and the groundsman agreed when I ventured "flat as a pancake". Best part of a thousand runs after two innings was always going to need some special bowling or poor batting to get a result.

Should we have enforced the f/o? Probably yes in retrospect but it's bloody hot down here and humid, the bowlers were knackered. And you'd expect Essex to have given it more of a go than that.

If you’d said to me we’d take 16 points from arguably the toughest game of the season on Saturday evening I’d have snapped your hands off. Disappointed not to get the win in the end but we were the better team overall against probably the best red ball side in the country over the last 6 or 7 years.

We’re growing into the season now. I have to admit I was concerned following the loss to Lancs but the last two games we’ve performed brilliantly.
