CC :: Essex v Durham

The way this game has gone/is going reminds me very much of this......

:(

We were in with a shot at the title on the last morning of that game.

Regarding the Burnham naysayers, I still haven’t given up hope on him and it’s clear the club haven’t either. He keeps getting picked and considering that it’s three head coaches we’ve had, who’ve all picked him and kept him involved either side of his misdemeanours, clearly he’s highly rated within the club as a cricketer.

His first innings knock against Notts showed he’s got talent, yes, he’s had two failures since, but other players with two failures from 3 this season include Lees, Borthwick and Eckersley. Nobody is calling for their head(s).
You shouldn't really be comparing him with players who have shown their capabilities over numerous seasons.

Burnham record is worse than Clark and Steel. Poyntner slightly worse but more tons. Can only keep having potential for so long.

It isn’t a hill I’m prepared to die on, I’m just pointing out that the people who make the decisions within the club seem to like him.

didn't even see they had come back out after supper

would be wailing in the papers if the southerners had been forced to do that at windswept arctic CLS... ironically it was cracking the pavements here at 7

He was only 20 when he was banned and deserved another chance. However he's now 24 and not kicked on since. Borthwick and Jennings were scoring 1000 runs a season at the same age. I know players like them don't come along that often but he compares unfavourably with players like Harte, Muchall and Ben Harmison at the same age. We've let better players leave the club while has continued to fail, Richardson for example. He averages 25 and has one century to his name, that simply isn't good enough for a specialist batsman in the CC. This season has to be his last chance, then Jones or AN Other gets a chance at five. We are never going to kick on as a county until we fix our fragile batting.

Well yeah, but they have both made tons and he made 42.

Fair enough. Everyone makes mistakes, they signed Dickson, re signed Smith and allowed Scott Steel to leave

I'm not sure they had much choice with steel as he didn't want to resign.

The build up to that however they may be responsible for. Ironically by not dumping burnham sooner....?
