CC : Durham v Worcestershire

Hot on the heels of our 16 point draw at Chelmsford comes our home match against Worcestershire commencing Sunday. We currently lie in 4th place on 99 points while The Pears are 9th on 72 and are one of two teams who are still without a win (the other being Warwickshire) and are, along with Kent, becoming slightly detached from the other teams.

Earlier in the season at Kidderminster we won in three days by 185 runs in a very enjoyable match with a century from Bedders and seven wickets for Coggs. Their coach Alan Richardson has stated that they are 'down to the bare bones' with their seam attack and as a result have signed Ben Allison on loan from Essex along with England spinner Shoaib Bashir who was actually on 12th man duties for Somerset in our last home game. In their recent defeat against Surrey, D'Oliveira, Leach, Gibbon and Singh were all ruled out while Kiwi all rounder Nathan Smith (leading wicket taker with 19) was rested. Their leading run scorers are Jake Libby (489) and Kashif Ali (482).

As for Durham, well Ben Stokes is due to be playing in his third appearance in red ball cricket this season and if his bowling is anything like his sensational spell against Somerset it will be worth the admission alone. Its a nice selection headache for Cambo to have as to what our starting line up will be. I think it's definite that de Leede will be stood down but will the coach keep Jones in as opener or will the captain move back up from No.3 ? What about the bowling attack - Coggs sat out the Essex game but was really impressive against our opponents in April, Pottsy looked more like his old self in the Essex first innings so maybe Siddle to miss out? Who knows!

Of course with us playing at home the current decent warm weather spell is due to end although the first three days look OK (at the time of typing this) if somewhat cloudy.

We've had a bit of a hold over Worcs in recent seasons so let's hope this continues so as ever....HAWAY DURHAM !!!

With both Stokes and Potts currently in prime bowling form how about playing Dwarshuis in place of Siddle to offer variation in the seam attack?
Presumably he's eligible.

I suspect he only has a contract for T20 games. Seems to be the way of things these days. Good point though 😁

Been so many draws this season 40 out 80 completed games for could not believe Essex yesterday not even a thought about going for the win.

If we beat Worcestershire be in a very decent position.

Fairly certain he’s having his workload managed, it’ll have been one or the other. I’m glad the decision has been made for him to play in the home game.

Stokes has not played for a month due to 20/20, before that there were 2 CC games then a two month break going back to his last test in India

A joke considering the opposition in Essex

Majority of us don’t expect him to play for us nowadays, so when he does it’s a bonus

Which if he was a multi format cricketer like in previous years I would agree. However, lets cut to the chase, he does not play 20/20 or 1 day cricket anymore so only plays tests

There surely needs to be balance between resting and actually playing enough cricket so you can make meaningful contributions. With the bat, his lack of cricket has been badly exposed

I’m not disputing that, I’m merely pointing out that it’s quite obvious his workload has been managed by Team England.

Personally, I don’t know why he wasn’t able to play in the Blast for us. Even with the managed workload.

Wood has bowled 17 overs in 4 months. With the first test upcoming on July 10th should Wood be playing on Sunday versus Worcs?

Wood won’t play many tests if any this summer I reckon. Be saving him for the winter

Weather is not looking too good for the 4 days currently atm

Extremely annoying, had this pencilled in for months, why can’t it just be sunny in near July!

Same argument as Stokes, Wood needs to play more domestic cricket
