I said this time and time again last season. Having endured that today, I think the time has come where something needs to be said. Campbell has said he doesn't like draws, so something needs to change. It was awful to watch that today

He didn’t, but he probably thought he’d got outside the line - I’ve looked at it a few times again and I can’t really criticise* the umpire.
*Regular members will know how I normally never miss an opportunity to climb into the umpires
It’s one game, but I get the frustration, I know that for a long time Vic was down at Trent Bridge and as I understand it, he prepared a lot of pretty flat decks down there too.
Regarding the game, I can’t see anything other than a draw. I think the only way we can win is if we go berserk in the morning (or they feed us runs) and declare around lunchtime and then suddenly things begin to happen. Unfortunately this feels like another game where things looked so promising on Day 1, but where a draw is the best we can get. Hugely frustrating.

Sadly not just this season mate there is no pace or carry in the wicket anymore. I think you would need express pace low Wood or high class spin to have chance of 20 wickets.Appropriate choice of phrase given the opposition

A lot of long time members saying that today, fair few I've known years left early they were cold and bored. Amazed with myself lasting until 7 overs until the end. I said last year I will give it another year to see how things go, but I'll not be using annual leave at work as much if that is the sort of cricket which is going to be the normal at Durham, it's a very hard watch. This is the last year on my 5 year membership.
In my mind I thought I’d made reference to last year too but having looked again I didn’t type it
I concede the pitches were awful last year, I just mean that we need to wait and see a little while longer regarding this season because I can’t imagine it’s been an easy winter/spring for the groundstaff to prepare pitches ready for the new season.
I couldn’t agree more about needing life in the pitch and a good contest between bat and ball.
The pitch is the main factor in my concern about us setting a game up tomorrow. Draw points are barely worth getting, but we can’t really afford to give a team who’ve already won a game an opportunity to pick up an easy win when they’ve been under the pump for two and a half days.

Bonus points are f***ing stupid tbf. I agree with Mark Butcher, just scrap them altogether and have 6 points for a win and 2 points for a draw.

I disagree to be honest, I like the fact you can get more points for a draw where you’ve been on top than the opponents.
Was hard work watching today, 3 sessions and up until Worcester declared we took 1 wicket per session. I left at 5.30pm as the allocated wicket for that session had already been taken so I thought nowt else to see. Got home and was amazed to find Worcs had declared their snail paced innings and were possibly interested in something other than a draw. Watching on the stream (brilliant compared to the dog shit effort served up by Sussex last week) and tomorrow has become interesting rather than looking like a turgid draw. Which it probably still will be. Recalling from memory Haynes ton took something like 203 balls and included 7 fours. Hardly Baz Ball.
With regards to comments made about the wickets being prepared at the Riverside. The entire square was relayed a couple of years ago and it was predicted by Vic the wickets would, initially, be slow and low and should bed in after that. So don't know how far along the curve the square is from being bedded in. Plus last season was a complete anomaly with extremely warm dry weather and poor quality Duke balls being used. Plus if the captain and/or coach want seaming wickets they just have to inform the Head Groundman. Of course if the initial outcome of the square being relaid was very bowler friendly wickets then no doubt the ECB would become very interested and start asking questions. Especially if this coincided with Durham winning the majority of games at the Riverside.

Pace or high class spin required. That’s exactly what the ECB are after following their ‘why do we keep getting stuffed in Australia’ review. And it’ll take a few years for that to filter through.
This type of shit game demonstrates that there’s no perfect solution though.
So what is a fair target to set Worcester? Campbell said he's done his homework and has a target in mind. Hope it's not too generous. We're currently going at over 5 an over If we maintain that until just after lunch we'd be setting them 300 in 60 overs which is a fair target imo.

It’s the all important question mate. Truth is, I’ve no idea, because in this world of BenBall all bets are off. Given how flat the pitch has looked for the last 12 months I don’t think 60 overs is enough to take 10 wickets, nor do I think we could get enough runs prior to lunch to give me much confidence that we can avoid giving the game away.
Unless Worcestershire feed us runs in the first hour and we declare with 70-75 overs left I think any declaration we decide to make would be bordering on wreckless.
