CC : Durham v Warwickshire

At the request of @wayne entwhistle no9 ,whose time in charge was even less than BFS as England manager, I'm back for this one only! Well after our hugely disappointing defeat against Notts its a chance to kick-start our season against Warwickshire at the Riverside on Friday.

We should see the return of David Bedingham after his South African jaunt as well as the debut of South Australian Brendan Doggett and let's hope he can continue where he left off in the Sheffield Shield Final where he took 11 wickets in the final. Who will make way ? well I imagine it will be Clark and Coggs although the former will consider himself hard done by after scoring 45 and 62 if he is dropped as the rest of our batsmen with the honourable exception of the excellent Ackers didn't exactly cover themselves in glory. If it were down to me I would have Robinson in at 7 as his form doesn't justify coming in two places higher in the order.

As for our opponents - we didn't play them at Ch le St last season only at Edgbaston in the snore draw that saw The Bears declare on 698-3 with a certain Will Rhodes on 178no. They are captained by Alex Davies who got 256 in that match although in their drawn game against Sussex today he had forsaken the wk gloves in favour of Kai Smith. We should have been watching the return of ex Durham opener Tom Latham but the Kiwi broke his hand recently and is out and the one and only legend that is Rushy missed the Sussex game with a calf injury and will more than likely be missing the game against the team he gave so much to for all those years. There will be one former Durham player however in the shape of Sri Lankan bowler Vishwa Fernando who played a cameo role in our Div 2 Championship winning side I 2023. Also injured is Olly Hannon Dalby who is always a threat.

The weather looks really good on Friday and Saturday (what a change from last season eh folks?) with the chance of an odd shower on Sunday and Monday.

Saturday will probably see the debut of Mrs RT as a Durham member so if you see a bloke trying to explain why the batting side has only two players on the field while the fielding side has eleven...Well that will be me!

As ever Haway Durham !!

I would drop Rhodes and the spinner no point playing one just to say you are our spinners are all white ball bowlers.

Our attack looked so unthreatening bar Potts and certain players need to apply themselves more we the bat.

We get a lot of scores between 30 & 50 without going on.

At least Gay can’t do worse than a pair and a couple of costly drops.

You are being a bit over the top after one game

Anyone got memberships yet (new members)

Will have a dodge up Friday after I get up from last night shift, so probably after lunch. Hoping forecast stays the same

I've mentioned previously that this season will be my first one as a Senior Member and Mrs RT will be joining for the first time. At the Uni match I queried with the young lad in the office and Callum Thorp about when the card for her will be received and was told 'before the first match*'...Needless to say it hasn't arrived yet.

* Probably meant the first match in June.

No, new member here and not got a card. First they claimed they would be posted out nearer the end of last month. Last week I emailed them and got the following response:

Hi there,

We firstly apologise for the delay. New membership cards are on course to ship early next week in order to arrive in time for the first game. If the cards don’t not arrive in the post in time then collection from our gatehouse over the first home game of our season will be in place. Any further communications regarding membership cards will be coming out early next week.

If circumstances change additional communications will be sent out to alert members in time for next Friday’s home opener against Warwickshire.

Thanks Box Office,

down friday and monday. away with the ice hockey this weekend. forecast looking good for friday. those members who have a history of being ejected from the trapdoor stand will be banned from the county durham upper @The Red Telephone
Watch out for when the sun disappears behind the Don Robson and the exiled Trapdoor Army descend on the Co Durham Stand and take all sorts of liberties on their manor.

how much are tickets? might have a dodge down as i dont work fridays anymore - supposed to be refurbing bats but could skip it in favour of watching some cricket.

Is there anywhere to work from at the cricket if needed, probably just the bar?

There is wifi at the ground but assuming you need a laptop I’d say no. I’ve just got a new job that would allow me a couple of days away from the office, if there was a way I could sit with my laptop and watch the cricket I would be there often. But I think the only options would basically be equal to having the YouTube stream on at home.

Can use my phone for personal hotspot? It’s more if I needed to go on a call I’m sure the bar has internet, sticky wicket

Maybe you’re right tho

Have also been giving it the thought about working in the ground but I think the Sticky Wicket is the only real practical option. Even then, the WiFi signal in there is usually quite poor.

Do you not have lots of data on phone? Can’t comment on what programmes you use on computer but if it’s nothing to major it usually works pretty well
