CC : Durham v Warwickshire

Nice to see the book shop open again. Just a heads-up, avoid engaging in a conversation with the good hearted ladies who seem to 'run' it. I picked up a copy of an Australian version of Wisden off the shelves and was she said wasn't sure whether it, and two others, were for sale. Odd to have books in a bookshop that aren't for sale? I got an explanation that ended about 5 minutes with her telling me that her sister was going to hospital on Monday for an operation and that she had to drive her there. I'd seen two other books I was definately going to buy but forgot about them.

Think you were stood in front of me, definitely heard that conversation as I was spending a cool £2 on Mark Ramprakash's autobiography

I have no idea how the pricing works either. The lady was explaining to somone else a few minutes earlier about how the books were all donated and that they couldn't charge a price for them, only donations. Or something like that. £2 seemed to be a common theme but then another lady wanted to 'charge' me £2.50 for each of the two books I'd chosen. I was wandering around trying to have a proper look at some decent books in all fairness and 'my' chosen books were taken off me by her whilst I continued browsing. I daren't ever go back in. I might have to ask someone else to go in for me and get 'The Wisden guide to cricket grounds' if no-one else has snagged it. A most queer setup.

I must have got lucky, one of the blokes in there was great with me and just left me to it. I was confused on the pricing system too, I thought you just decided what to donate and was then told that "those ones are £2" - I was happy enough as I was going to donate a fiver 😂

I only briefly popped in on Friday and then spent most of my time talking to Ian who runs the Travel Club. From what I could see most lot of the stock appeared to be from the days when it was CC books when they all had the 'price' pencilled in ie £4.50 for a rare book by the old Aussie commentator Alan McGilvrey which I was looking at or £2 for one of Dickie Bird's many autobiographies.

I heard one of the ladies telling someone it was six years since they were last selling the books. How time flies.

It was the lady in the centre that talked at me.

I got the whole 'They've been in storage for six years but thankfully it was dry........ " patter too.
