CC : Durham v Nottinghamshire

Seven weeks after our calamitous home defeat at the hands of Worcs red ball cricket arrives back at the Riverside. Had we won that game against a makeshift bowling attack we would have been virtually safe from any threat of relegation and looking at a potential 2nd or 3rd place finish but we now find ourselves only 11 points ahead of 9th placed Worcs.

Our opponents Notts are tied with us in the table on 102 points with Durham ahead by virtue of us having won two games as opposed to their one.

No team news as yet but we are of course without Bedingham and the visitors are without Dane Paterson for the same reason. However we all expect McKinney to be in the starting line up following his 50 over performances.

The relatively dry weather we have been having recently looks to be coming to an end in time for Thursday and it'll be interesting to see what sort of wicket has been prepared following the five session victory over Somerset and the aforementioned six session defeat against Worcs.

Let's all hope for a better performance and a better pitch.

Unsure what days I'm taking off work. Will make a late decision. I'll miss day 3 as Pools are at home. Hate this time of the season as reality sets in that the season is almost over and I'll miss seeing folk at the ground.

Notts are also without Pennington who's nursing a hamstring injury but probably no chance of Potts being made available if he doesn't make the Wednesday's test XI. As I suspected, none of the youngster bowlers stepped up in the 50 over cup to make a claim for senior cricket. No cover whatsoever in that department until Carse returns.
So

Lees
Borthwick
Ackerman
Robinson
Clark
McKinney
DeLeede
Raine
Coughlin
Parkinson
Wagner.
Almost inevitably it'll be a used strip so Sowter for DeLeede perhaps.

Pity the weather is turning for the worse again just as red ball returns. Thursday and Friday booked off as Saturday is out for obvious reasons and experience in the first half of the season suggests day 4 is a pure theoretical at Riverside this year. But I’m in the fortunate position that I can cancel those as late as the night before so likewise unsure in practice.

Sowter doesn't play 4day stuff

Slightly OT, but if Wagner is up for an all formats contract for all of 2025 I'd get that sown up as quickly as possible.

Whey, you know my feelings on weather forecasters and First Class cricket umpires being one and the same.

It wasn’t meant to rain today, but we’ve already had a canny downpour.
Went out for my daily constitutional this morning, shorts, tee shirt and gilet just to keep the early morning chill off, didn’t provide much protection from the pelting rain that came out of the blue.
