I'd advocate a T20 contract and head coach role for Colly. We'll regret it if he walks away to a job within the England set up.

If Colly wants a big coaching job then a Head Coach at Durham or similar could be a good stepping stone for him.

But I am not advocating getting rid of Lewis. I would like to see something happen to improve our batting performance. I've suggested pre season preparation is a fault and is there anything that can be done to prepare a youngster or two -- coaching perhaps. Perhaps the answer is to not promote them into first team cricket until they are absolutely sure they're ready.

As I've sais many times. I want loal youngsters to come through. Recruiting players from outside the region is probably something that has to happen but it's not my preference.

tbf i think we've done that.

if you look at next season you'd imagine our top 3 is set with lees bancroft & cameron steel.

the middle order is troubling with the likes of harte, clark, richardson, collingwood, smith, burnham??, ryan davies, pringle all available but not really nailed down or deserving a spot.

much like england we have stacks of players we can call all rounders but none really good enough to bat higher than 8. our middle oreder is basically just there to make up the numbers.

the likes of rushworth , salisbury, rimmington look like being our seam attack for next season along with whichever one is fit out of the battery of others we have. as we've said long before and after blackwell's time here we are in need of a decent spinner.

lees, bancroft, c. steel, clark, smith, s.steel, poynter, weighell, rimmington, rushworth, salisbury

i'd be tempted to go something like that. time to be ruthless. smith or collingwood and poynter or davies if we think he is the future. clark has had a half decent time of it so maybe start with him but there are certainly spots in the middle order, to be honest all of them, that are there to be won be anyone who puts their hands up and scores runs

We also have Potts and Carse to come back. Both look to be talented.

Trevaskis may turn out to be a good spinner. He did well before he became ill, his magic over against Lancs may have been mostly down to Lancs players losing their heads, or not, time will tell. And I really like Whitehead I really like him, he's got something about him. I watched one of his wickets closely and he got drift and sharp turn to catch the edge … nearest thing to a magic ball I've seen from a Durham spinner - but I'd be wary of including him outside of the one day games.

Both Trev and Whitehead are yet to show what they can do with the bat.

Wonder how many batting points the opposition have picked up

91 v 169
184 v 440
96 v 205
297 v 424
129 v 198

797 v 1436

Average 1st innings scores
Durham - 159.4
Opposition - 287.2

Sobering stats indeed.

We've lost three of our five home Championship games and I don't hold out much hope in our last two and let's face it...we should have lost the other two if Leics and Derbyshire hadn't lost their nerves.

Roll on 2019 !
