CC : Durham v Kent

Not that it mattered but Kent declared once reaching 350 to claim a 3rd batting point thus denying Durham 10 overs to claim a 3rd bowling point . Is there some sort of penalty for this scenario happening đŸ€” Could be an important factor for all clubs throughout a full season.

No, they declared ten minutes early to quicken the handshakes.
Slight change of approach required by North. Instead of recruiting his ex-team mates got to pick their brains for their recommendations of promising mid -twenties candidates.

Think this is a bit harsh really, not a single pundit or fan was anything other than mightily impressed before the season with our signing of Boland - it was a statement of intent that had many people tipping us for the title

Siddle and Wagner performed more than admirably for us, both put in plenty of effort and Wagner’s impact - as short as it was - was more or less a match winning effort alone.

The signings of Murphy and then Kuhnemann last year were masterstrokes in their own way, signalling our intent and outlining Cambo’s philosophy.

The one thing nobody can legislate for is injuries and we really have had zero luck in a few areas there - some absolute freak injuries have been suffered by our overseas signings.
Bit of a Brian Rix farce at the end with Robinson and Bedders bowling
To be honest it’s been a bit of an anticlimax. this game with the paucity of our bowling attack and them being already down .
It’s been “ cold” and a turkey of a game with the only enjoyment for me as a Durham fan was the enjoyable quick bish bash by Bedders
Will consign this game to the history of forgettable events

Agree with much of this, I couldn’t get down to the game at all last week so for me the Lancashire win was my end of season do. Not a bad way to end it, with a phenomenal win that saw us secure our future.

What followed, especially with the bowling ‘attack’ that we had for those final two games were a bit farcical in truth (not in any way a dig at those players who played) but if we’re being honest the job had already been done.

It’s been an odd season in many ways though, with a total washout and then an ‘as good as’ washout bookending the season. I can never remember a summer as cool and as gloomy weather wise as this one has been.

I said elsewhere that I’ve long since been an advocate for an earlier start and a later finish - because we often get warm and dry Septembers, clearly this wasn’t one of them - but I think with hindsight this season probably shouldn’t have gone on beyond the second week of September. The spectacle of the One Day Cup Final being played on a Monday to an empty ground because the domestic game has once again been forced into the margins left an especially sour taste. Those teams and county cricket in general deserves so much more.

The comment was tongue in cheek and harsh but there's an element of truth in it. 4 of the 5 you name are Aussies,Boland and Siddle old enough for their and North's careers to overlap. Whilst you can't legislate for injuries all 3 fast bowlers named were at the veteran stage and therefore more likely to succumb to injury. It won't be easy but I hope we look for an upcoming seam bowler next season rather than one at the veteran stage.
On the other hand his batting signings have been superb, particularly Bedders. I'd never heard of him when we signed him; now he must be one of the best in the world.

The spinners I also mentioned (which you ignored) were both young/up and coming and both succumbed to factors totally out of North’s control.

Bowlers get injured, it’s a fact, we’ve had more injuries this year to young bowlers than we have old ones.

As for the Australian connection, look back at our entire FC history - the majority of our overseas players have been Australian and there are several good reasons why

Yeh,Young bowlers who are still in growth spurts almost inevitably pick up injuries and likewise so will those in the veteran stage. That's why I hope North can find a proven mid-twenties antipodean but that's not an easy task. I didn't ignore the spinners-they were irrelevant to my point regarding the risk attached with elderly seam bowlers. I concur with the points you have made.

Yep if your a first class cricketer in Aus your one of 66 as opposed to one of 198.

Not to say that means they will do well in England of course. Nic Maddinson sticking out like a sore thumb, done tremendous since leaving us.
