Durham Evens, Kent 4/5.

Return of Durham to County Championship action, a week after Kent started putting us IMO opinion at a big disadvantage to start with - even more so when you consider our pre-season was confined to one day of play against Durham students.

Imagine the team will be the same as what played the students, with Markram shoe-horned in at the opener slot.

Personally feel Smith will drop to 3, meaning Steel will partner Markram at the opening slots.

I expect Clark to go 4, with Richardson and Collingwood coming 5/6 before Poynter at 7.

Bowling will be four from Rimmington, Rushworth, Potts, McCarthy and Weighell.

Gareth Harte will miss out in my view from the batsmen that faced the University, but as mentioned in the Uni match thread, the club and coaches clearly like the look of him and so I expect him to feature at some point throughout the season. Richardson and Poynter are the obvious ones under pressure, it would be a massive coup if Harte comes in and scores runs because it would fill a massive middle order hole.

Hope to get down on Friday, weather looks to be very good over the four days.

Excellent batting conditions them :cool:.

I reckon we should have a sweep though, on how many times Durham are 'invited' to bat first this season. I'm going to say 5 games out of the 7 home Championship matches there will be no toss.

It's still one game of proper match practice that our lads haven't had.

Hopefully their confidence, like you say, is shot to bits though.

Might get stick for this but I am a bit disappointing if that is our team

I know its hard with losing players, I get that, but that is only 4 local lads in the side, if we are going to struggle I'd rather it would be with more of our own

Agree with you there.although would prefer to see them play only one of the wicket keepers and replace the other one wit Harte. Hopefully retain Richardson.

I think Smith and Markram are the possibly the best two slow bowlers at the club.

I'd like to see Pringle play as a batsman and give him clarity, at 5 or 6. At the end of the day one of the few local lads we have, he has some ability to work with
 
Can we establish straight away, when replying on a match thread, get in rushy, is not enough?

Scores, please, wickets and bowler/fielder names as well

Not to much to ask?

Sadly I see no improvement with Ryan in the past 3 years with bat or ball and if anything last season he went backwards and Colly was reluctant to bowl him. For me it makes the decision to release Hickey even more difficult to understand.
I agree with you on the lack of local lads in the side thats is something they have to keep their eye on even taking into account the departures in the last 2 years.

Could also be a choice between Potts, Weighall and McCarthy for 1 spot and any would be a good choice.

Smith and Steel will bowl spin if needed - but I'm just basing my selection there on what was picked last week. That means no spinnner.

As for the locals, 7 of that side were trained and/or reared here - which holds more weight with me in fairness.

Yeah, well I wouldn't rule that out either mate - there were times last season where one or the other played and so it could well be Harte getting the nod.

Pringle doesn't appear to have progressed in the last 2 years but two points I'd offer in his defence. He was primarily a batsman who was encouraged to develop his spin for the good of the team and probably contributed to the regression of his batting. Also batting at seven you're often left with the tail with little chance to develop an innings. For that reason I'd give him a final chance at six and forget about his bowling.

I'm sure Pringle would've liked to have made a bigger impact this last year or two, but I'm not prepared to give up on him yet and I don't think the club are either.

He's still a good three dimensional cricketer who can adapt to all formats, so I expect him to play a sizeable role this season - even if he misses some of the early season pitches.
 
Same 1-7 as you picked, Brandon, with McCarthy and one of Potts or Weighell in addition to Rimmo and Rushy. I'll be there most of Friday/Saturday/Sunday with our first game now re-scheduled.
