It's stopped raining in Ch le St and the sun is out now but as in all things ITHICS.I take it not much chance of play today? Was going to go watch today but if it’s looking unlikely I’ll probably not make the trip

Nearly 9am and no updates
Fair enoughThe main reason why we don’t have them here is because the drainage is that good. The time it would take to mop rain off the covers and then remove those covers would take far longer than simply leaving the outfield uncovered and the moisture finding its way through the earth.
Where it falls down is when we have a substantial amount of rainfall for a prolonged period (i.e. days on end) and the water table rises, because then the water has nowhere to go. No amount of covers on an outfield can prevent that occurring.
In fairness it’s very rare that we have these sorts of problems nowadays and to the surprise of many, Chester-le-street is one of the driest grounds on the circuit.
I was thinking about this last night and did a check and it's five years since we lost a full day's play at the Riverside. (Glamorgan in the last game of the 2019 season). With the exception of that glorious first week in September the weather has been dreadful since the beginning of last July but it never affected the chances of play at the Riverside. In fairness it’s very rare that we have these sorts of problems nowadays and to the surprise of many, Chester-le-street is one of the driest grounds on the circuit.

Hello from sunny Sheffield
The irony you travel a good 2 hours to another city where it is dry and sunny to watch an indoor sporting event played on ice.Hello from sunny Sheffield

Marty tweeted there wil be an inspection at 10am but nothing since.
Hey come on, you know being sensible and using logic isn’t how this forum goesThat’s the answer surely? The club clearly don’t feel it’s cost effective or proportionate to spend huge sums installing and maintaining a cover system that in reality adds little value/benefit?
