CC:: Durham v Derbyshire (A)

Can’t keep pursuing with Poynter
Tbf Poynter got double figures which is a canny knock by his standards.😂

Franklin would probably cite Eckersley's recent batting performances as justification for Poynter's selection. However, he bats safely down the order at six and I'm not convinced he wouldn't get runs there keeping wicket. His batting average with the gloves is actually pretty good.

I wouldn't care but Poynter isn't even that good a keeper to warrant his batting performances. It's hardly like having Chris Read or Bruce French in your team. He's done some good stuff like standing up to Rushworth but equally I've seen a few chances bounce out of his gloves and a few slide under him for four byes. He regularly dives in front of Bedingham at first slip which is just a waste of that fielding position. Bedingham has spilled a few this season, and you wonder if there's some hesitancy over whether Poynter would go for it.

The fact it's also keeping another bowler or top order batsman (e.g. the in form Clarke) out of the team is the cherry on the cake.

interestingly Franklin was recently quoted that Carse had the potential to bat at 6; he's certainly a better 7 than Poytner at present. Eckersley 's batting never appears to have been adversely affected by keeping wicket,nor is Poytner a measurably better w/k imo, difficult then to see the justification for his continued selection.Both Potts and Trevaskis are potentially CC all-rounders,it's always been Durham policy to promote such talent. It's a concern that the new regime does not appear to be continuing this policy.
I sent in this question to the zoom forum -it was ignored.

The changes for the Essex game could be nominal .Potts in for Raine as part of the bowlers rotation.May be Woody's last game for a while 🤔. Clark in for Poynter to bolster the batting 🤔

Woody's off to the England camp on Friday so not available. Not sure bowler rotation is required after such a shortened game. Franklin's "non youth" policy probably guarantees the non wickettaking Coughlin's selection.

Carse has had limited opportunities this year with the bat but he has scores 25, 0, 15, 40*, 38* and 25 coming in at No.8/9 with an average of 35.75 and has taken 25 wkts @ 18.72...figures that are not to be sniffed at.

I imagine that Raine will keep his place as 12 of his 15 wkts have come at the Riverside and I would dearly love to see Potts be given his chance seeing as how as previously mentioned Woody will be off to England. My other change would be Ned taking the gloves and Trevaskis coming in for Poynter but theres probably more chance of seeing Stokes playing red ball cricket for Durham this season than that happening.
