CC :: Derbyshire v Durham

So after the excitement of the Bank Holiday, attention turns to Derbyshire on Friday. What a difference a win makes, as another one in this game will ignite the promotion talk!

We did the double over them last year - with Burnham and Pringle smashing Tahir all over Chesterfield in the away game as we chased down 285 to win. Then Colly's first innings 177 in the home game was the crucial contribution in a 9 wicket win.

It's going to be tough though, having to face a fired up Mark Wood, chasing a Test place.....

"Wood is now in contention to play for Derbyshire against Durham in Division Two of the County Championship, starting on Friday."

BBC bullshit aside though, it'll be great if Woody can play in the game, lord knows we need all the bowling help we can get as Rushy and McCarthy seem to have come out of the Leicester game with injuries. Add to them, Potts and Carse seemingly not close to playing and I think it would be wise for the club to look at a possible loaner in the coming days/weeks.

I suppose we'll know better when the squad is announced, I didn't expect the club to come out and let people know what's actually going on

Lads, LIVE STREAM for this one

Odds: Them 4/5, Us Evens.

Weather: Looks alright first couple of days, maybe a bit rain on Sunday.

Don't agree with the loaner. If Coughlin or Main are fit enough, they're on contract they ought to be good enough. Having said that I have a niggle in the back of my mind about Coughlin Jnr's fitness.

So a pace attack of Wood, Rimmington, Weighell and J Coughlin? Or Main?

Ideally Rushworth will only have gone off as a precaution, but unfortunately I don't think we're that lucky.

On another note, this game will signal the quarter mark of the Championship season, we've only just got bloody started and already we're 1/4 of the way through :(

Aye. 6 days of cricket all at home and zero away.

Our only fit first team quick bowlers currently, if I remember right, are:

Rimmington
Wood
Weighell

With Main and J Coughlin waiting in the wings, then after that a whole host of Academy players.

So if (or when) Wood is told by England he can't bowl, our predicament will be even worse if Rushworth, Potts, McCarthy and Carse remain sidelined.

That was the logic that lead me to thinking about a loanee - not to come and hinder our own lads getting chances, but simply put, there could come a time very soon (as soon as the next game) that we don't have enough fit bowlers to actually choose from unless we pick some young'un out the Under 15's

Only other bowler i can see is Charlie Hartley who has been playing for the second team who played a handful of games for Kent.

Good spot WCC, have to say I know nowt about him. Would he be ready to step into the first team? Could we trust him to have an impact?

There must be a few lads out there who are on the fringes of a first team call at a Division One club for example - who'd relish an opportunity to play on loan.

That young lad at Lancashire perhaps who's not getting a game due to Jimmy Anderson's availability - Onions I think you call him

Even after that great win Durham need to make changes to this side. Surely they can't continue to play 2 wicket keepers who are not scoring runs and only 4 front line bowlers which is even more of a problem when Colly is not fit to bowl as the 5th seamer and give the others a break. With lack of numbers due to injuries they can't even rotate the seamers, someone like Weighell bowled a lot of overs in that last match and only has a couple of days to recover.

Not sure really but we might have to find out

There we go Matt Dixon from Essex signed on a month loan.

12 FC games, 27 wkts @ 41.62

I can see Pringle coming in for Poynter tbh.
Have to say I was unimpressed with Main from what I saw of him in the first team and the 2nds last season but hopefully he will have improved.

Lets hope Markram goes out in a Cookesque blaze of glory after his classy second innings knock against Leics.

Some of the gadgees in the green seats were telling me they'd been down to Northants and were going to Derbyshire...so lets hope they get better weather!

See, I knar me stuff me y'knar ;)

Let's hope he takes bucketloads of wickets and enjoys the stottie van that much he stays permanent :p

Agree fully, @The Red Telephone is right too - we can strengthen that batting, or atleast we need to.

Said in the match thread after the first innings that I just don't feel Poynter will ever be a decent County batsman, but the club seem to prefer him with the gloves. Richardson has had an abundance of chances too and so I don't think there could be any complaints if either one were jettisoned.

Pringle at 6, or even Gareth Harte - who is the only player left on the staff who hasn't had a good run and failed.

Not sure whether either will/can be called up from the Second's game.

But for me, I'd like to see:

Steel
Markram
Smith
Clark
Collingwood
Harte
Richardson (wk)
Weighell
Rimmington
Wood
Dixon/J Coughlin

hard to know whether it is more this or more the hope that taking the gloves from Richardson turns him into some kind of second coming of don bradman

That's true. Doesn't look likely though does it

the phrase you use about harte being 'the only player left on the staff who hasn't had a good run and failed' tells the story tbh

it's sad how many players are still in around the team in this boat, although look at graham clark who seems to have turned it round a bit

That was the plan for Richardson although maybe not quite that ambitious.

It seems there are a couple of young'un in the seconds who may be at the point where they need to move up to advance - so Richardson needs run or his place will be under pressure from below I'd guess.
