Cattermole for England?

I disagree. At the time the sale was on he was more than expendable. A walking red card, prone to errors and of suspect fitness and character following his involvement in the Di Canio business. He would have gone had Poyet been able to get one of his other targets over the line, and Bridcutt had already come in which indicated his feelings toward Cattermole at that time. One good game then three or four horror shows. Credit to the lad for getting back on the right track - he's been superb so far this season.
Actually, we were never planning to sell him. It was a ploy to try and put one of our relegation rivals at the time in the shit. Obviously stoke ended up nowhere near but still clever by the club.

With an International ref in international football and without the benefit of a TV replay he couldve been off quite easily.

When? Why? How?

I certainly didn't see that. I DID see a strong, determined Lee Cattermole playing a lot of skilfull, creative football as well and breaking up a large number of Man U attacks. He also acted as a leader.

I was very much against LC until about half way through last season because of his often suicidal behaviour. Now I see a different player. I am delighted to change my opinion.

If he gets in another half season of games at the same quality level then why can he not be considered for England. Any contribution that would improve that shower of shite should be welcomed by English fans. We shouldn't push him because he is ours, but neither should we discount him for the same reason.

Does our general transfer prowess suggest to you that this is in any way likely?

Knowing our luck he'd get injured. I'd be happy for Catts if it happened but from a Sunderland supporters view I'm not so sure, particularly if it's a token gesture to make it appear players are picked on merit and not on the club they play for

IMHO bringing in Bridcutt has made Catts play better, cos' he has learnt to use his brain, or found that he had one!

Bridcutt wants to put his foot on the ball and slow the game but just wasn't given any time yesterday and his ball shielding skills don't seem to be quite at "last 20 minutes of a tight premiership game " standard but whose are ? Anyway it's impossible to slow the game on the edge of your 18 yard box.

Bollocks. We miss him whenever he doesn't play. The reasons he didn't play as much as much as he could have were mostly self inflicted. Now he's realised this he is better again.

Absolute tosh...from the WC and other internationals, it is the refs in the English Premier league that seem intent to stop football being a contact sport overseas refs let a lot more go than Twatkinson yesterday...he seemed to be auditioning for the vacant Webb role at times..

No they don't overseas refs are much more stricter than ours.In the World Cup they were told to be more lenient IMO, but as a rule they are much more stricter.

Best english midfielder in the country

I take it that is a piss take mate

The point being that there were reasons the club were justified in feeling he could be moved on, and we weren't missing him at that point. If he was playing as well as he has done in the last few games we wouldn't even have entertained Stoke's bid.

Why do we feel the need to pretend that he's always been excellent? He hasn't. That's not a dig at him, because I have no reason at all to criticise him this season - as I said above, he's been our standout performer so far - it's just the truth.

Nobody I know wanted him to be sold in January.

Unless you know Short, Byrne and Poyet that makes little difference. I spoke to a few who wouldn't have been sorry to see him go.

If a similar situation arose this week I expect we'll hear nothing about it. It'll be put to bed in the first phone call, quite rightly too.

It makes all the difference in the world as we're talking about our opinions of him as a footballer.
We all knew he was a f***ing divvy at times but could still tell he was our most important player.

At the time the former was outweighing the latter. That is my entire point.
