Cattermol to Stoke....

I want Gardner away as much as the next man, he's f***ing useless but he ain't going anywhere until the summer so if Gus wants to bring players in and Cattermole going helps with that then so be it.
This is the crux if it for me, there is players we would love to shift before him. But needs must as £5m is a decent return and we can't get shot of Gardner.

Really not sure about this one. One week I'm glad he's with us and the next I want to kick him out the door myself. Can be so important and then a complete liability.

If we replace with better then great, no idea about Bridcutt, never seen the lad play a minute of football and his youtubability is pretty poor.

People on here quick to criticise cattermole and wish him goodbye but again short memories.
Play golf with him and he's a top lad.. People forgetting that he's one of our longer serving players and actually cares for the club
Still got his best years ahead of him IMO

Agreed. I like catts. Really shouldn't be selling any of our first team regulars at this time of year.

I think the key is he doesn't appear to fit into Gus's style of play. It was typified on Saturday when he lost possession cheaply and proceeded to kick the player from behind giving away a pathetically cheap yellow card after 10 minutes. It was a surprise to me that Gus waited until 60 minutes to haul him off. I've always liked him but we are moving away from the 'strong character in the dressing room' players that appeals to the old style managers such as Bruce, Hughes and MON to players who can technically handle the ball and Gus's style of play. If Bridcutt is that type of player and is cheaper than what we get from selling Cattermole then it makes a lot of sense regardless of how strong Catts has been on occasions. I would say 'thanks very much' to Cattermole but look forward to us moving towards the Southampton model of vibrant, possession based attacking footy.

It all comes down to selling players we are indifferent to when we can. Sell to buy puts a lot of pressure on poyet.
Poyets frustration regards Cattermoles lack of awareness at the weekend plus replacing him often recently suggests he is less than impressed.

Don't think we should sell Cattermole till we have someone who we know is better in his position. We don't know Bridcutt is any better. Presuming he the replacement of course.

I was just thinking of reason times mate. I know he has massive history but at home of late he literally meltdowns on the pitch. Never seen a PL football player do that to the extent that he has within the last 2 games.

I think he seems to set himself very high standards on the park - standards maybe beyond his capabilities. Looks to really beat himself up when he makes a mistake or misplaces a pass. Then he tears about and the more he does it the worse he gets. When Cattermole is bad he is spectacularly bad.

If he goes, and I may be in the minority here, Ill remember his time here as having more good games than bad but with overall disappointment because I think with improved fitness and discipline he could have been a bit of a hero here[DOUBLEPOST=1390341124][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yet still consistently selects him ahead of Colback, Larsson, Gardner and Vaughan (iirc he left on loan after Poyet took over).

Said when we signed Gardner our midfield was much of a muchness. If £5m for Cattermole snatch their hands off.

Bridcutt is clearly the man Poyet wants for the sitting midfielder. Ki is the first name in the team sheet. That leaves one space in midfield and Catts isn't the best man for that particular spot - even from what we've got on the books right now. For the cash and wage space we'd get from moving him on we probably will be able to bring in a couple of players. Catts certainly has something to offer the club. However the suspicion is that he is a player who just doesn't fit well into the coaches system and as such is a poor use of club funds.

Cattermole is nothing like Gardner, Vaughan or Larsson.

At this moment in time we arent in a position to sell Cattermole. If we sell him before Bridcutt comes in then his price will be driven up and the club, with their approach in recent times, wont pay the asking price. We could then be left with two of Gardner, Larsson and Colback starting every league game.

Clearly amongst our three best midfielders and we play three midfielders. I would only entertain his sale if Bridcutt and another midfielder were coming in.

Nail on the head mate, what I will say is poyets system is far erred with consistent players. Who you can trust to play that way and do it effectively.

As much as I like catts, he can struggle. I would try and hold off any sale to Stoke for a week until we have played them.

I'm not reading through the whole thread, is there a credible source?

I would be sad to lose Catts, he's one of our best players. If we got enough money, then I suppose it would be hard to turn down... but... we'd have to replace him with better. He's one of our best players already, we don't have much depth, so losing what little quality we have is not a good idea. If we replaced him with someone better, then I suppose it's a good move. But he has experience, ability and tends to play well in big games.

Think you are absolutely spot on with this. Great post
