Carlisle United

That's two clubs that have seen things they aren't happy with, maybe the level pressures have things to do with it but his aversion to change a style that doesn't work is a get-rid flashing sign to owners. When things are going well it isn't a problem but when they aren't the pressure mounts very quickly as the paying fans at Carlisle have demonstrated.

His post & pre match pressers haven't helped him either mind.

He's signed 12 new players & expected them to fit operfectly into a team pattern, deadline day sacking hasn't left the new man much chance of creating his own style.
The only thing I would say is that I saw Carlisle pre season at Gateshead and it was abundantly clear that the players were hopeless. They were poor last year and looked utterly hopeless pre season and at the start of this when Simpson got sacked. There was something clearly wrong before he came and its too easy to blame this season on style of play. At least now with the signings any new manager has at least some better players to work with which Williamson didn't have the luxury to have but it just might be too late.

What Simmo left clearly wasn't good enough. My belief (which I think I posted) was that MW was taken on with potentially next season at Conf level in mind, if he could have prevented it great but whatever Simmo had faced is/was ongoing so sticking someone with capability at that level in ready. But one way or another it hasn't worked out. Arguably the secret is bringing in players to play a preferred style but time wasn't on his hands or allowed to him. Putting a new style into any group of players takes time & practice to bed-in but when the pressure builds to avoid a relegation it becomes nigh on impossible.

Really don’t know where the Gerrard thing has come from but it’s not even close to being true! Evatt and Stuart Kettlewell have been approached, also spoke to Warnock - who didn’t say no - but appears to be a no-go. Looking to appoint tomorrow.

The recruitment of decent, but injury prone, players in the summer was a disaster and killed Simpson really. Thomas at CB got injured almost straight away, Hayden injured every other game, Davies out for the season after a good start, Ethan Robson injured when he arrived and hardly played, McGeouch as injured as he’s always been plays 2 games misses 10 games, Jordan Jones got injured after a fortnight, Charlie Wyke broke his ankle and out for the season, Georgie Kelly from Rotherham has been fit for about 5-6 games and had 3 separate injuries since he arrived, club captain Callum Guy returned from ACL injury and now has a mystery illness which put him in hospital, return date unknown. Some might say unlucky, I’d go with careless lack of due diligence!
