I think the issue was that he left after they got promoted and went to a side who might well be one of their rivals toward the bottom end of League 1. Obviously, Shrewsbury are now in League 2 and cutting costs.

The club's demise has been has been going on for some time (arguably pre Simmo), their main saving grace (imo) was what Mell was doing in games at both ends of the pitch so whether he or the club thought it was time for him to call it a day who knows. I'd be interested to know what went on behind the scenes.

It's a shame the Pools v Carlisle games are both midweek fixtures.
