Calvert-Lewin (discussion on transfer)

He’s done well for Leeds but I didn’t want him here in the summer and I don’t want him here now. They’re happy with him and good for them, he’s not for me.
He is a good player and, if remaining injury free, more than capable of performing well at mid table premier league level. He has had a very good season. Sadly, for most clubs, the risk associated with signing a player with his injury record is too great.
Will he remain injury free next season?
The best way to predict the future, is by assessing the past. Therefore probably not.

He's been absolutely awful at finishing this season.

His goals Vs xG is mad. He has so many shots needed to score.

Prefer to find someone more consistent

I think this is a fair comment. That said he does hold the ball up and win his duals which helps us gain territory. He also doesn’t foul in the same way that say Bamford did

I don’t think he’s the long term solution but players like him and Chris Wood (when fit) are worth their weight knowing the PL game has changed in style over the last couple of years

In hindsight, exactly what Leeds needed really. 10-15 goals, and a regular front man.

They’ll be able to upgrade in the summer I reckon fairly easily (they focused on their defence last year), and he’ll be a perfectly serviceable second striker for them.

Obviously a huge huge gamble with his injuries, but he was top 5 goal scorers for Everton in the PL or something - so he always had talent.

It’s interesting to now look at how Leeds and us went about it in the summer and how we upgraded (we went for midfielders with our cash, Leeds went for defenders). Both have worked this season, which is great imo - the league needed mixing up.

Roker Report did a great podcast in the summer where they got on podcasters from the three promoted teams talking about hopes, expectations and the way their teams had gone about it. If they’re looking for ideas this summer it’d be mint for them to do it again with the three teams and find out how their seasons went.

He's a good player. His main issue has been keeping fit. If he can keep fit he's going to get you 10-15 goals a season which isn't a bad return these days.

Scored twice as many as our top scorer

The whole Leeds side was set up for him tbh, certainly after the changes around December. Whereas we've generally been more compact and had to play up to the likes of Brobbey and play off him, so I doubt DCL would have fared anywhere near as good here. Brobbey also didn't start the season fit and up to speed and Mayenda and then Isidor were our main strikers scoring 5 between them before Brobbey got regular starts.

DCL has been decent but I've been impressed with how powerful Leeds can be in attack (despite being prone to losing goals in transition). Certainly an area we need to improve- I've not really been impressed with any of our true wide players.

Wonder how Leeds would've done without him.
Who's to say, but he's done great for them, well enough for the england manager to look at him, if he can keep himself fit, he's good for 15 goals a season. be interesting to see what happens to Leeds in the summer, as in, if they spend money and upgrade the squad a lot.

That says more about our strikers (or team setup tbf to our strikers)

DCL went through an unreal run of form around Christmas and scored 7 of his 12 goals in back to back games over a 6 game period. His 5 other goals were spread out over the other 26 games he has played in, having a run of 7 games and 6 games without a goal at different stages this season.

Realistically if he was a better finisher with the chances that Leeds have supplied he should be on about 20 goals.

I'd prefer we aim for someone more consistent

When he was linked with us I’m sure I got slated on here before for saying he is a good premier league striker when fit which he is as he’s shown this season .
