Calvert-Lewin (discussion on transfer)

I'd be more concerned about wages than transfer fee. If he's on a lot of money and doesn't produce the goods, that could be very costly.
He will be on a canny wage that's for sure. 11 games fit last season and as many in previous seasons, massive gamble for any team nevermind a newly promoted one

My gut feel in him choosing Leeds over us, is that it means he won't have to move house. Dare say he lives in Cheshire, and can stay where he is, not move any family he may have, and commute to Leeds. Whereas he'd have had to relocate to come to us. It's been a problem whenever we've tried to sign UK talent in recent seasons. Players are reluctant to move north when they can stay in Cheshire/Midlands and commute.
I don't think we wanted him.

Don't know why us and them never went for Tammy Abraham rather than Lewin, he's the better player with the better injury and scoring record. He went to besiktas on loan.

Could be a brilliant signing for Leeds and get them the goals to keep them up

But he could just as easily score nothing, and become a PSR millstone round their neck if they go down

At least with the expensive players we have signed we would have few problems moving them on in a years time if it goes tits up. if DCL fails at Leeds who would take him?

True. Like I said, if Guiu is a gamble them this guy is even more of a gamble. His last good season was 5 years ago, since then he averaged about 4 goals per season, I'm confident that any of our strikers would have a better record playing in the Prem. Of course, there's a slim chance he regains his form and he's getting a call by England, but there are more chances of Guiu being called by Spain.😁

So what's the betting for how many goals he gets this season, and how many would it need to be to be worth the huge salary?

I'll stick my neck out and say he'll get 5 league goals, pretty much his average for the last 4 seasons.

I actually don't mind him, think he's a good player, but can't shake my brain thinking he's got potential and will develop, isn't at his best yet etc, which is daft as he's 29 this season.

What do you reckon broja would get at 20 mil probably plus another 12-18 mil in wages over his contract

Dcl probs a 20 mil wages gamble

Why’s it massive? He’s on a free. If we had landed him as a 4th striker option it wouldn’t have been a disaster if he did get injured given the options that we already have.

We have 3 inexperienced strikers who we have no idea if they are good enough for the tough league we are now in. For me that’s the gamble!
It’s another Rodwell fiasco in the making. Been there seen how it turns out. Leeds are welcome to him, The only thing that will keep him off the treatment table will be Bamford .

At times he's shown he's got something, but the amount of time off with injuries is frightening.

The last hamstring injury kept him out for 100 days.
Prior to that 70
Prior to that 50

With a 29 day layoff tucked in between.
His time off appears to be getting longer as he gets older.

For the wages he's apparently on it’s an incredible gamble.
Once the hammys start f***ing up it’s a worry as it causes issues elsewhere. It’s what worries me with mundle tbh.

The Broja signing is the biggest eye opener on the ridiculous amount you need to pay for strikers who have scored a few in the prem before. Insanity

Burstow hadn't played for the Chelsea first team. He hadn't scored half a dozen goals in Europe.

But apart from that they are / were both on Chelsea's books but that's were the similarities end.
They're completely different players and pedigree, stupid that people compare the two.
Some how though burstow was getting a few minutes the first two games of the season before we signed him on loan though (think they deemed he had a good preseason season so got a few token minutes)
If they were in that conference league that year, I think he probably would have been treated similarly to Guiu in that. Doubt he could even score against shamrock though, by God was he awful and its hard to imagine that allegedly we beat AC Milan to his signing
