Calvert-Lewin (discussion on transfer)

He’s going there on a free and he’s only 28 and very experienced. Yes him staying fit is a big thing but if he has the potential to keep Leeds up if he flourishes. Do we have a striker with the same high bar if they have a good season, sadly I’m really not so sure.

It's a massive gamble on a crock.
Why’s it massive? He’s on a free. If we had landed him as a 4th striker option it wouldn’t have been a disaster if he did get injured given the options that we already have.

We have 3 inexperienced strikers who we have no idea if they are good enough for the tough league we are now in. For me that’s the gamble!

He'll be on relatively massive wages and based on his previous availability he'll be lucky to be fully fit for half the season.

I'd rathe rather have a kid who will be available 90% of the time.

I'd be more concerned about wages than transfer fee. If he's on a lot of money and doesn't produce the goods, that could be very costly.

Mags in replies saying he rejected us, they've got some cheek given how many players have rejected them this window.
He can’t reject us if we don’t offer him a contract  I would’ve thought those numb bastards would be au fait in rejection by now.

He’s had more time off than Rambo’s safety catch.

Simone posted his stats and he’s played like 60% of games he’s been available for missing over 40% and that has increased the older he’s got over his career. His actual scoring record isn’t the best when you take out his one stand out season in 20/21 I think it was. It’s a huge gamble if he gets crocked early on then he’s a massive drain on wages.

May end up being proven wrong, but I genuinely think this is as bad a signing as any premier league team could have made.

I'm relieved he hasn't ended up here, because I would have said the same thing if we'd signed him which would no doubt have led to endless abuse on here 😂

390 days through hamstring injuries in total in 7 years.
262 days through hamstring injuries in the last 4 years.

The moment sky sports announces he's got a pulled hamstring this season that's him done.

Anyone thinking we were going to sign him at all, let alone with that record is deluded.

Mad that

He’s a good player when fit like but it’s a huge gamble

You’d have thought leeds would have learned after Bamfords last few year

He was good 5 years ago, nothing after that.
There are more chances of Guiu having a stellar season than him regaining his form from 5 years ago TBH.

At times he's shown he's got something, but the amount of time off with injuries is frightening.

The last hamstring injury kept him out for 100 days.
Prior to that 70
Prior to that 50

With a 29 day layoff tucked in between.
His time off appears to be getting longer as he gets older.

For the wages he's apparently on its an incredible gamble.

So what's the betting for how many goals he gets this season, and how many would it need to be to be worth the huge salary?

I'll stick my neck out and say he'll get 5 league goals, pretty much his average for the last 4 seasons.

I actually don't mind him, think he's a good player, but can't shake my brain thinking he's got potential and will develop, isn't at his best yet etc, which is daft as he's 29 this season.

My gut feel in him choosing Leeds over us, is that it means he won't have to move house. Dare say he lives in Cheshire, and can stay where he is, not move any family he may have, and commute to Leeds. Whereas he'd have had to relocate to come to us. It's been a problem whenever we've tried to sign UK talent in recent seasons. Players are reluctant to move north when they can stay in Cheshire/Midlands and commute.
