Calvert-Lewin (discussion on transfer)

I’d call bullshit on that one personally, as in I doubt we even offered him anything. He just doesn’t seem to fit our model/profile and the sort of player we would go for. If Talksport are the source I’d feel confident in that call as well, compared if one of the more reputable journos mentioned it.

He’s on a free.

Pritchard, Browne, Evans, Reinaldo, our model has regularly signed experienced, often injury-prone, players on a free.

And we definitely seem to have focused any striker efforts on target man types this year, which makes perfect tactical sense, both in terms of style we likely need to play and in terms of differentiating from the two lads already in the squad.

So, I can believe it. But the lad appears to be absolutely taking the piss on wages and have delusions of grandeur about his status in the game. We move on.

Talkshite are good at these story's...

Player that's not a target for a club rejects that club, can't really be disproven unless the player speaks up.

In the minority here but I really rate him like. Injuries would be the big concern but on his day he bullies premier league CBs no bother. Risky signing but I’d be happy with it if we got him in
It’s a huge if but if you could keep him fit - maybe use him quite sparingly - he’s an excellent finisher, and a handful (and we are missing both a bit of physicality and premier league know how). It would be interesting to see him as the main striker in a dynamic three attackers with other forwards closer to him, as the isolated role at Everton didn’t really do him any favours.

He’s a handful but I don’t think he’s a great finisher. Plenty of Toffees on here have seen him more and can correct me though…

We still need a striker and a commanding centre half , not sure if he’s the answer mind
I think we need a bit more premier league experience. Options will be quite limited (within budget). Wouldn’t be starting every week but if the deal was right I wouldn’t be against this one at all.

I know it'll sound bitter, and not living in the real world etc, but if it was true and that was his response, I'd rather we didn't sign him. Wouldn't want him rocking up late in the window just because no other fucker in the league wants him. Not exactly the commitment you'd want, I'm not convinced he'd be busting a gut to come back from knocks and if he's waiting it means we'd likely have had to go a few winnable games without him while he waits to see if anyone else wants him. You can't always just move on because a player wants to assess his options, but in this case I'd very much want us to.
