Callum Doyle

Our squad isn't even complete yet so I think it's difficult to judge. But we already have the likes of Pritchard and Roberts who I think will be more than capable at this level, Stewart too, I think he'll still be scoring and make the step up, we've also got experience in defence with Wright and Batth, and a highly rated young lad in Ballard from Arsenal.I think we'll bring in another 4 or 5 and will hopefully hold our own, and by the way, there's nothing wrong with confidence and optimism, anything could happen, the likes of Luton had a great season last time around so you never know.
Then again Luton had a couple seasons to bed in first, I agree anything could happen but I dont see it

So you've watched us twice last season and you feel qualified to talk about how we will do next season. Mint.
No I actually saw a couple more games than 2, and I’ve also watched quite a few championship games outside of Cov, and I was just saying what I saw

I think this is a completely fabricated rivalry that doesn't actually exist. Most of us were probably born after the Jimmy Hill delay incident and although we know of it and understand it to be an unsportsmanlike event from our history, it is just something that happened in the past. No Sunderland supporter in real life, outside of the internet, spends any significant amount of time thinking about Coventry City FC and Jimmy Hill. The media and a very small number of wankers on the internet have made this up. Coventry are like Luton or Blackpool to me, just another club we will play who have no significant connection to us, outside of the two games we will play I wish Coventry fans good luck for this coming season.

100% this. I've been going to matches since 1982, 5 years after it happened. For a lot of that forty years I was travelling the country home and away. I've never heard it mentioned in 'real life'. It's a social media driven rivalry, as plastic as Brighton and Crystal Palace, largely by people who weren't born then. I couldn't give a toss about Coventry either way.

Neil Shipperley sat on our keeper to knock us out of the playoffs, but I don't pretend that there is a rivalry with Crystal Palace. Dennis Wise cheated to get us down to ten men to stop us qualifying for Europe in 2004, but I don't pretend that there is a rivalry with Millwall.

Calum Doyle is a decent footballer.

However, he isn't much of a defender. His decision making and reading of the game are poor.

Watching the ball sail over his head whilst barely moving his feet is his party piece.

I'm not sure there's a single Sunderland supporter who would have wished him back.

He may improve, he may not.

Hooked after 23 minutes yesterday:

Robins was asked if he had made the decision to replace the teenager in order to take him out of the firing line and shore things up at the back, Robins said: “Yes, I thought he’d started slowly and they’d got the measure of him

He plays in a position where people improve significantly with age and experience. I'm sure he will end up a very good player. He wouldn't get in our team though.

He was superb in our first few games but I think he's been chucked in the deep end a bit too early. Overplayed by Johnson with us and getting subbed by Coventry in the 23rd minute will do nothing for his confidence which seemed fragile to start with.

Only 19 though so plenty of time for him.

Ouch, that’s probably the end of his Cov career and pretty blunt from Robins. They kept a clean sheet though so probably the right decision.
