Callum Doyle

Coventry Telegraph reporting we’ve been gazumped for young Callum
Coventry Telegraph also saying Sunderland have been “taunted” after they won the race for him.
Considering we weren’t in a race for Doyle (it was clear Neil didn’t fancy him), the piece doesn’t get off to a great start.
Further reading will reveal that nobody is taunting Sunderland at all.
This manufactured rivalry is tedious. I couldn’t give a fuck about their team or their fans - just like the rest. They’re no different to Bristol City, Huddersfield, Middlesbrough, QPR or Reading or anyone else

If I was Robins I wouldn’t play him on the opening day, Sunderland and Neil know all his weaknesses (of which there are a few) and will no doubt pinpoint them.

This. Just makes them look tedious twats tbh.

What😳 Coventry have beat us to sign Doyle who we weren’t after. Wonder if they know any more players we don’t want that they might beat us to.

It would appear from the comments up til’ now that the jury is out on young Callum, there is obviously a player in there who maybe lost his way a bit as the season progressed.
We play a back three along with wingbacks and as we have an established 3 still at the club Callum may possibly not be a starter. I believe he’s been signed to replace Jake Clarke-Salter who was excellent for us last season but unfortunately has moved on to QPR.

Is that the one who was on loan at us and was dog shit?

Aye, got sent off for one of the most ridiculous tackles I've seen for us and barely played again after iirc.

Good on the ball and will carry it well but he was way off it defensively. Would step out all the time and get turned and is poor in the air either from crosses or long balls. We ended up playing 3 at the back so we had extra cover for him even though our squad wasn't really built for that. Tom Flanagan, who we shipped to Shrewsbury in Jan was better than him in every metric at the time he left, and in the end Doyle got dropped despite only having two fit CB's (one one of them were in and out the team due to fitness so we had a CM/RB play CB and a LB at CB ahead of him.

It was just way, way too early in his career. There were many who thought he should be playing but the justification was because he was young and had potential, rather than that he was better than what we had which of course is no good to us when he isn't our player.

Lots of ability on the ball but we looked a lot more solid with him out of the team. Would be surprised if we were in for him again.

Not bothered at all.

No point in persisting with a player that isn't ours. He was suspect and too slow imo. Not worth chancing it if he's not our player to develop.

Wish him well, but he wouldn't get in our side and he needs to play games.

I reckon he will do a decent job for you next season.

This, I don't think Neil rated him not for what we needed at the time, looking back he only came on as a late sub a couple of times and the last game he's started was Rotherham

One of the worst I've seen for us and that's saying something

He’s wasn’t bad on the ball first half of the season…. . I hope he has a good career. Seems like a nice lad.

His lack of pace will be a major hindrance to him playing top level. He is pretty slow.

Having watched Clark Salter as a young loanee and Doyle I’d say you have a much better footballer now. This is coloured somewhat by the fact Clarke Salter is probably the second worst centre half I’ve ever seen.
