Does anyone have a potting shed as well as a greenhouse?

The shed where I keep my gardening stuff is pretty much done for. I usually just use the greenhouse or a table outside for potting stuff up, but was looking at potting sheds too.The windows would be facing north, so I’m not sure how much use it would be.
The main thing is it frees up space in the greenhouse.

I just use a little table in the greenhouse. But it does use up space I could use to grow something.
Considering one of those potting tables aldi sells and leaving it outside.

Got some tatties away and strawberries in some hanging baskets.
Topped up my raised beds, but nothing else in them yet.
Need to set some seeds away, it will wait til next week

Fruit trees 75% off (including small and dwarf rootstock ones). Mental note of the date as well having forked out near enough full price earlier, when half of it only got delivered the other week anyway.

Got rid if my allotment last year as I just didn't have the time anymore.

Got to this time of year now I'm gutted I'm not down setting stuff away.

So I've went and bought a little 3 shelf pvc greenhouse for my back garden. It's only a relatively small space.

Any ideas for smaller productive plants I could grow in the greenhouse/back garden.

Been looking at dwarf variety of tomato plants. Potatoes in bags etc

I realise this is not quite what you were saying but them small PVC greenhouses are ideal for peppers and tomatoes. If you can get one without the shelves they will grown no bother. You could start sowing now and by the time they are ready for the larger PVC greenhouse they will probably be on sale from B&M. Got mine for 15 quid last year and it comfortably fit in 2 large pepper plant and would fit in 2 large tom plants....or one of each?

I got one yesterday from home bargains. It's only a small one like. Not had it up yet so might see if I can avoid a shelf or 2.

I'm going to avoid full size tomatoes as I know they can go 6 or 7ft easy.

Just something small to get the bairn involved too.

I plan on taking the garden over with pots but the Mrs doesn't know this yet 😂

I never used to appreciate gardening but the older and more stressed I get I find it a necessity. good for the soul....and tasty

Make sure you either put a couple of bricks on the bottom shelf or it is very sheltered from the wind.

I had one to start seedlings from each year and had been toying with the idea of a greenhouse. I'd got to the stage where most my seedlings were a few cm tall and needing thinning & potting. A big gust of wind tipped the whole thing over. I was able to salvage a bit but lost half of it. That made the decision about getting the greenhouse.

Good advice. Some string around the mid sections wouldn't go amiss either.

Where do people buy there seeds/ seed potatoes/ onion sets from ? B&M? Proper garden centre ? ..For the first time i'm looking at growing potatoes/ onions and growing them in a big builders tub, is this workable/ do able ? Any tips ? .
I have tried to carry on my dads tomato growing tradition since he passed away 15 yrs ago and i get worse crops every year , tiny crops , small tomatoes , all foilage no tomatoes , i space them out , i nip the ones growing inbetween , feed them, prune back branches with no tomatos on, but still poor crops ..
what am i doing wrong ? How do i grow big juicy tomatos and a healthy crop ? .

I'm sure there better veg growers than me will be able to advise you better but I always try to research the best variety for things like weather conditions, disease resistance, taste, look or whether you want a early or late crop. There is loads of information out there. Once you know what you want, have a look in places like B&M (usually really good for toms - especially the sungolds) then if there are not there, you can order online.

on a side note, can you get decent acidic compost that doesnt cost loads? Or can I use normal neutral compost and add a spoon full of vinegar to the water or acidic mulch to the pot/ground?

acidic compost

Ericaceous compost is what you're after, for acidic loving plants like blueberries, raspberries, etc.

I love this fellas YouTube channel "GrowVeg" he's very excitable about it all  as mentioned above, varieties for you or your conditions are important.

I tend to order most my seeds from Suttons. I always have good results from their stuff.

I didn't last year and got different brands from the local garden centre (which is usually really good), and produced very little. Although I had a higher failure rate than normal on germination, I had stupid numbers of slugs due to the damp last year.

I do buy seed potatoes and onion sets at a local independent garden centre though.

The branded higher price ones are often the best in my experience. suttons as mentioned.

One spring I trued Wilkinson cheap seeds and it was a disaster. Had to pretty much start again.

Thought I had some good tomato plants but they produced very little in the end

Used to love getting down the allotment

Took pretty much this week off every year to prepare. However the bairn came along abd as you can imagine my spare time was no longer spare

Might be worth trying to pick up again in the future. I have had the luxury of a good sized garden with veg plots, so it makes it easier that I don't have to go far.

My son has been less interested, but as a kid my daughter used to love being involved. She was brilliant at digging for buried treasure (potatoes) and has always enjoyed planting seeds and seeing the early part. She used to go around the garden singing to herself, nibbling on herbs, eating raspberries & strawberries. Now she is college age, she has gone into countryside and environment management, possibly because of all her outdoor time with her dad when she was younger.

But when she was a baby, she was so much hard work. If I had been disappearing to an allotment for hours every weekend, I would have found my packed bags waiting on the drive for me!

Our allotment rep gets ours from Kings Seeds through the Allotment society which uses exactly the same catalogue as the kings offer to the general public but with up to 50% discount.Their seeds are generally very good especially the Club Root resistant brassica varieties.I also use Yorkshire seeds which are available online and good quality but arrive in small brown envelopes with no instructions on but these can be found on their website.

I fecking love tomatoes in salad and pasta dishes. I am hoping to grow a whole load of tomatoes on a south-facing wall in the garden, while planting grape vines at the same time with longer-term ambitions.
Also going to dig over the veg patch and plant a block of sweet corn seedlings that I will start in the green house.
Have a look at companion planting too. Squashes or courgettes do very well in the gaps between sweet corn. Apparently cabbages do too, but you can't net them with corn between.

No idea how reputable branded seed merchants stack up against offical societies and the like but....

at a quick glace they are selling off terrain peas and sungold toms which are good varieties. Not grown the other stuff listed.
