Calling SMB veg growers

Came back from holidays to find my various tomato plants had grown a touch, but nothing like previous years where I was forever having to prune them back. Got about 20 actual tomatoes growing, only 3 actually grown and ripe though.

Strawberries went well, had 3 large crops from them. Pruned them right back after the last harvest hoping for a late bloom, but doesn't seem to be happening, all they want to do it run.

Peas are the same disaster that I always get. No height at all. New batch went into the ground last night, fingers crossed for a late bloom there.

Have you put peas in from seed or plants ? We have an empty section as beans failed and thinking of chucking more peas in

I always sow my peas in modules, 3 per module then plant out after 3 or 4 weeks. Bed gets a bag of manure in Autumn then a bag of compost when sowing (I'm no dig).
Always get a good crop although I think the rats had a lot this year. Worst year I can remember for rats.

Used to sow in guttering but seem to be better in modules for some reason.
 
A bit off topic but I planted a UK hardy fig tree about a year and a half ago, it's growing well (in a large pot) but as it was from a cutting it has started to grown at about a 30 degree angle, away from one of the knots.

Is there a way to straighten it over time?

Always do my peas in guttering, and then slide them into place when they are about 6 inches tall.
Grow them up wire mesh. Always worked well for me.
Beans started in individual modules then planted out.

Had a fig in a big pot. Never got any fruit from it, and it just stood there doing fuck all.
Binned it in the end. Too much slavver on for nowt in return imo.
Didn't even look nice.

Maybe prune it, leaving a central branch/trunk with the apical bud (top most bud) and a new leader will form from here. Or bamboo cane and train it to go straight over time, spring when the sap is running and it will be more supple.

Restrict the roots for fruit.

My next door neighbour has a fig tree. It's about thirty year old so is quite big. Gets absolutely laden with fruit. I've a cutting from it in a pot. It's only about 2 ft tall but produced about 5 figs this year. I had no idea before you could grow figs in Sunderland.

Put it in the ground and bend and peg it into an upright position I've got 3 fig trees and they are really flexible but always grow more outward than upwards like spreading there arms out to catch the sun ☀️
 
Sick of the winter now and I'm starting of thinking of spring.

I always like a novelty edible and I think this year I'm going to go for the Chilean guava, also know ...I think....as the Strawberry Myrtle.

Anyone else like growing anything odd? I would like to stick some of them giant Atlantic pumpkins in the ground. Just not in my garden.

I normally got for tomatoes and peppers because their needs are similar and I cannot grow much else.

Although I did successfully grow 3 redwoods from seed which wasn't easy took me about 100 seeds to get there.

No idea what to do with them. If some giant redwood spring up around easington lane or hetton, it is total coincidence.

Will be starting to sow a few varieties of tomatoes shortly.
Will definitely be growing some crown prince squashes this year, they’re lovely eating.
My garlics shooting up.
