Calling SMB veg growers

My broad beans are planted out.... Have been for 2 weeks
Butternut squash and runner bean seeds planted in pots in the tunnel now... Slow progress

Getting my peas out today

When do you prune back gooseberry bushes? Seems like conflicting advice on google.

Me dad used to collect sheep droppings from the farm and put them in a hessian sack. Soak them in a tub for about 6 weeks then use the water to water his plants. Never failed to get good crops.

where do you live? I have 18 tomato plants in a 12' x 6' greenhouse. They are staggered in planting. The early ones are just developing the 4th truss, and medium sized fruit on the fisrts 2 trusses. I dont expect to be picking ripe tomatoes for another 6 weeks.

be interested to know when you sowed seed, potted on and planted out.

I have 12 plants in my greenhouse, first toms are a few weeks away yet. Money maker toms, set away in March and planted direct into the ground inside the greenhouse at the end of May.
 
I have had a canny year so far. Strawberries and rasps have been brilliant but pretty much over. Probably only a couple of weks more until the taties and onions come out, got the first of the peas today and the squashes looking healthy. I've got loads of green tomms waiting to ripen, but noticed tonight red mottling on the leaves of two plants. No idea what that is but hopefully nothing that will affect the fruit.

Strawberries coming to an end, ditto rhubarb but I have some in the freezer. Trying rhubarb gin this year

My peas were a disaster this year, most seeds didn't germinate (new packs as well). Tried them in different places incl the mother in laws garden, but to no avail. Must have got a bad pack.

What's the crack with growing sweetcorn, I didn't think we had the weather for it over here? Does it need a greenhouse or just outside? I just grow stuff that the kids like, keeps them interested so sweetcorn would be a good one for next year.

That's about to change apparently.

I've planted some strawberries, cherry tomatoes, normal tomatoes (died whilst I was on holiday) and I took some seeds out of a supermarket pepper. Google claims that it is nigh on impossible for seeds from supermarket peppers to grow. So I overfilled some small pots with them and there are shit loads of stems grown. Should probably move them out to bigger pots.
