Burnley want Alex Neil

The owners had to sell Chris Wood to meet this years repayment to the old owners. No way they'll be competing next year if they go down.

Not saying he wouldn't go but it'd be a bad job to take. They're knackered if they go down like we were.

He had a release clause wood like that’s why he was sold

They then bought weghorst

I disagree like. Huddersfield are 3rd and are distinctly average

They can’t compete with millwall and Luton for a playoff spot

Don’t agree
I genuinely think they'll be in League one in two years.

Long term agreed but next year will be their one shot

Like all sides who go down

Burnley are a good club with a solid fanbase and a fine tradition.

They’re not at all tinpot.

Burnley are the stereotyped 'proper club'

But let's face it, if we're both in the championship, who has the biggest potential?

Yes they have parachute payments & maybe afford to pay a bit more. That's of course assuming that like many clubs in their position they've over burdened themselves with excessive wages...

Sometimes the grass isn't always greener, best to stick to somewhere you're doing well.

The American owners of Burnley took a 250 million loan to buy the club. If Burnley get relegated there are in big trouble financially there would have to sell all there best players

Its reported the release clause didn't kick in until the summer but they wanted to sell. They still pocketed about 15m quid after buying weghorst.

Don't think he would if we were both in the championship. But if we are still in league one. Especially if they offered him a three year deal.

Doesn't his contract run out half way through next season as it stands?

The article literally says they are looking at Neil as he can work on a limited budget. Parachutes will be gone before they even got the accounts.

They're Bolton mkII

Loads of middling North West clubs that'll never kick on to be anything because there's too many clubs in close proximity, diluting the fanbase. Add to that the glory boys flocking to nearby Liverpool and the Manchester clubs.

Tin hat on here, I wouldn't even think Neil would leave even if we don't get promoted. It would all depend on if he would get the backing of the owner to at least have a good input into the style of squad he wants at the club going forward. If he gets that I don't think he leaves for Burnley.

If it was any other club than Burnley I think there might be a chance, but with the financial perils they're in if they do get relegated, it's going to be a fire sale use the academy players next season job for them. I know Neil is a good manager, but it could well end up like trying to save the Titanic.

12 month rolling contract from Feb looks a bit short sighted in hindsight.

Agree, if we don't go up, there'll be a few championship clubs sniffing around

I was gonna say this, his contract is an obvious place where Burnley might be able to beat us. I like Neil, think he suits us and I expect he'll get us promoted within the next 13 months, but managers don't get long at clubs nowadays, so he'll make the best decision for himself.

“However, if it gets to the end of the second year it automatically goes on to a rolling 12-month contract, so he is never out of contract.

"It's assurance for the fans and the club isn't it? Because the reality is, if he wants to go anywhere else we are always covered by compensation and 12 months - and if we want to change manager we recognise there is a cost to get rid.”

From his Preston days talking about the rolling 12 month contract ^ basically never out of contract and guarantees compensation if we don’t sack him. Seems shrewd to me.

I you do well, other clubs will want your players and your staff.

The time to worry is when they don't want them.
Can only think of watmore, mclaughlin and maja who've gone to higher leagues since being in league one prior to this season. Barring Remi Matthews but he doesn't count for me.

Think there's a few in this lot who would attract Championship interest.

He did sign a long one there after the initial one.

That’s from 2019, the article I quoted was from 2021, where he was going to enter the 12-month rolling contract stage…
