DCL League Executive meeting tonight. Two clubs have applied for the two DCL vacancies - Littletown and Burnopfield. Their acceptance will be recommended to a meeting of the DCL clubs next week.

Interesting. Surprised that there wasnt more applications

The DCL need two to make the numbers up following the resignation of Kimblesworth last year and the pending departure of Horden - it was expected that they would be made up of two from Littletown, Beamish and Wearmouth (who have a standing association with the old coast league through their junior sides).

If Burnopfield apply to DCL, with their facilities etc, I would imagine they would be a shoe-in for one of the two spots. That would really throw the cat amongst the pigeons.

What makes you think Horden are going anywhere else?

Are my eyes playing tricks here? Sure I just seen read posts about Littletown and Burnopfield applying and being recommended for acceptance and another saying they were surprised no other applicants?

We (Wearmouth) I don't know anything about but wouldn't imagine it's in our plans, yet.

Undoubtedly. Its madness IMO that promotion and relegation isnt applied throughout the leagues
Yep. Agreed. We look like we could become a decent team tbh, but you never know with kids, however, I can think of perhaps 6 lads off the top of my head that will be wasted as good club cricketers in the NEDCL. Nothing against the league as such, but they could easily hold their own against better first teams now. IMO.

Without wanting to disrespect Wearmouth at all (never had any issues with them), how come they arent doing a bit better in the league if they've 6 players of a standard above the NEDL? Not trying to be funny, its a genuine question

I've seen a lot of good cricketers in the NEDCL who could easily play at a higher lever, I've seen many who also have and for one reason or another don't any more, that may be down to format, seriousness, family commitments, not available every week etc.

Issue with auto promotion and relegation from NEDCL to DCL2 is that the team finishing top may not wish to move/may not meet ground criteria/may just prefer the 45 over win lose format. It may be detrimental to a club to force it. Only way I can see auto promotion happening is if NEDCL adopt format of DCL or... A DCL3 at some stage?!?!

Not saying it would happen but would be an interesting concept. I'm hearing rumblings of a few NTSL clubs thinking along the lines of burnhopefield (as alluded to on this thread) that travel is getting bigger for likes of leadgate, consett, lanchester et al.

Could be interesting if cricket board went down that route and opened another division with option to all clubs. Would be like the way DCL1&2 was formed but with potentially clubs coming from NEDCL, Durham based clubs, clubs around Tyne valley too (whickham, ryton etc). Likes of whickham were in coast league and travel us just like going to metro centre, would be interesting to see if that type if thought has been discussed at all?

No problem answering a genuine question.

4 of the lads are under 18, and 2/3 playing second team cricket at the moment, with 1 opening batting and bowling (with decent figures) and the other is first choice spinner.

1 of them opens batting for firsts (with middling scores but is still learning as only just gone 18) and captains 3rds for now.

Cheers. Should chuck the lads in the firsts for a bit experience and to push them. If theyre good enough theyre old enough so the saying goes.
