Just watching this game tonight and got curious as to approximately how much a League Two player might earn, the Google/AI answer surprised me I must be honest although there will obviously be some ambiguity to the answer. Here’s the reply:-

The average wage for a League Two footballer is generally reported to be around £1,400 to £2,000 per week (approx. £72,000–£104,000 annually), although this varies significantly based on club budget and player status. Top players in the division can earn roughly £115,000 a year, while some high-profile players can make near £10,000 per week.

Key Wage Details and Context
  • Average Weekly Wage: Commonly cited around £1,400 to £2,000 per week.
  • Top Earners: Top 100 players in the division averaged slightly under £175,000 annually (approx. £3,365/week) in 2022-23.
  • Top Individual Earnings: Top League Two players can earn around £115,000 a year, with some, such as on-loan players at big clubs earning close to £10,000 per week.
  • Bonuses: These figures often exclude signing-on fees, appearance fees, and performance-based bonuses.
  • Context: Wages are heavily influenced by "big clubs" recently relegated from League One, which may maintain higher payrolls.

I often wonder about stuff like this then also what the budget difference would be between biggest / lowest budget. 2nd and 3rd (MK Dons and Cambridge) I would think are 2 of the top teams regarding wages paid but Bromley? Not so sure.

I'd of guessed Harrogate would be one of the lowest budgets and they bottom of the league

Gillingham I'd guess have a decent sized wage bill and they marooned in mid table

I knew a lad who played in the conference (national league now) back in 2015 who was on just over £1k a week. I'd have thought league 2 would have kicked on to more than the figures stated above by now. Shows how much the premier league has taken off though and left the EFL behind. I remember Cattermole was rumoured to be on about £35k a week when he signed (not sure how true that is). You get kids with a handful of first team games earning that in the PL now.
