Broad or Finn

Big debate amongst the TV pundits over which player should make way for Anderson at the Rose Bowl. Almost all said Broad should be dropped including Holding, Willis, Botham and Atherton with only Hussain choosing Broad to play.

Personally I like Broad as part of the team and think we should perservere but he just doesnt seem to work out the right length to bowl often enough - a bit like Fred in his early career. I think Finn's record has flattered him so far - he seems to come up with a good spell after bowling toilet and the opposition is 400/5 and comes away with good figures.

these will be the same commentators who asked for Bell to be dropped in SA and Cook last summer

If they were that good coaches ala Bumble and Beefy they wouldnt be in the commentary box and England wouldnt have been shit under their stewardship

However, in light of him having two major injury problems during the winter, giving him a break because of back to back tests does make sense

This for me.

As a straight choice between Finn and Broad it's an absolute no-brainer regardless of form, and to be honest I don't even rate Finn all that highly either. Bowls an awful lot of dross and tends to burgle wickets towards the end of an innings which helps his figures no end.

However, I'd be giving Broad a rest now seeing as we can't lose the series and he isn't in the greatest of form. Get him back fit and firing for the ODI's and then test matches against India later on in the summer.

England were pretty good and well organised under Lloyd.

With fully fit bowlers I would suggest neither at this moment.

Anderson
Tremlett
Onions/Bresnan

Assuming Bresnan is not fit and Onions is half fit then maybe try out Dernbach.

Broad - as already stated and been slated for, has all the tools but for some reason doesnt take enough wickets consistently and goes for way too many
Finn - lacks control, weirdly has decent figures without deserving it a lot of the time

Long term - both

Agree with this, both still have age on their side, but Broad needs to get his arse into gear and start bowling more consistently, the number of short balls he bowled in this test was ridiculous. He just doesn't seem to be reading the game very well, he just bangs them in at chest height and hopes for an edge to the slips.

Finn's figures show the potential he has, but he needs to refine his technique to stop bowling so many wayward deliveries. He proved in Australia, and in this test what he's capable of when he puts the ball in the right place.

Maybe both of them could do with a bit more time on the county scene to makes the tweaks to their games without the pressure of a test audience.

Would have neither for the next test. Would like to see Jimmy back and Shazad to come in ahead of Dernbach, but any two of those three pitch-up bowlers to contrast with tremlett's bounce.

Finn out.

Its a straight battle for one place is between Finn and Tremlett (similar bowlers) in my opinion.
