Brighton fan in peace

20-40 minutes.

Yes, of course, this completely went out of my mind. It's called The Terrace.

It is at the ground and good, but 1/ It gets very busy and will take ages for a beer, and 2/ If the weather is bad before the game, you're fkd if you are not inside.

It's very modern football vibes. The best I can equate it to it The Stack at Seaburn.

Yes, use the fan zone after the game. It's still so new that I forgot about it! I would have a beer either in the concourse after the game (they stay open) and then a drink at the Terrace (fan zone) to let the queue die down.
Cheers mate 👍🏻

Firstly, good luck on Sunday. I’m sure most of the footballing world would be delighted if you can secure all three points. You’ve been a breath of fresh air since being promoted.

I’m also completely biased as I’m married to a Mackem and was delighted when you got promoted in May.

Anyway, Brighton STH very much in peace, looking ahead to our fixture next Saturday at the AMEX.

Happy to answer any questions about your upcoming visit.

It’s only your second visit to our ‘new’ home. Your first was in the League Cup way back in 2011 when you were only the fourth side to come and visit. It’s also the first time we’ll have played each other in the league since 2005. That fixture was at the Withdean in the season you won the Championship. The last time we hosted you before that was in 1992. There can’t have been many fixtures where the last three league meetings have been at three different home grounds!

Brighton, as many of you will know is a fantastic city with lots of places to eat and drink whilst enjoying a long weekend. Unfortunately, with the stadium being where it is (not in the city centre, another long story), places close to the ground are limited.

Your best best is to drink in Brighton (or alternatively Lewes) and then utilise the free travel that is included your match ticket. The stadium has a dedicated railway station - Falmer - train travel is free on matchdays to and from Brighton (and other nearby stations).

The only place to drink around the ground that welcomes away fans is Sussex University’s student bar (it is very good). It’s not in the city but a 10 minute walk to the ground.

The city itself is full of amazing pubs with something for everything but just allow enough time to get the train to the ground if you do this.

I’ll revert back to this thread with some suggestions of pubs but very happy to answer any questions you may have in the meantime about travel etc.

Great post mate. Brighton is a class night out if you have a guide on where to go 😉🤣. Just a shame the beach isn’t sandy !

Staying down Friday and Saturday where’s the best places to go, first time visitor to Brighton.

Whats the crack with the fan zone after the match does it get busy? Was thinking of heading in there to let the train queue die down
Welcome. Brighton is a fantastic city for a long weekend.

It depends on your age group.

If you’re younger (18-30) the most obvious place is West Street which is full of the usual nightclubs and women that populate most cities. Popworld, Weatherspoons etc.

If you don’t want that, then maybe the other 365ish pubs are for you. Around the Laines area, near the aforementioned Quadrophonia alley, are tons of pubs that continue all the way to the seafront, Bohemia being one.

Around the station, there are plenty (I believe some are home fans only, IIRC, The Railway Bell being one). One that is nice, but quite small is The Caxton Arms. It’s a proper pub with Brighton memorabilia that I highly recommend.

Other good ones are, Prince Albert, Evening Star, Grand Central and The Battle of Trafalgar. All close.

There are dozens of small pubs in the North Laine area just down from the station. One in this area is the Basketmakers Arms, but there are so many pubs in that area you’ll find something you like.

You also have the seafront between the two Piers (don’t ask about the West Pier) which is good nightlife if you’re young.

You also have the King & Queen which is not to everyone’s taste but is a designated away fans pub and was used for our European visiting fans.

Effectively, anywhere close to the station, or the Laines, and you can’t go wrong.

Please, please be prepared for the Brighton prices, which can be the most expensive anywhere in the country. Mill View Social Club, it is not.
I would be leaving on the final whistle mate. I went with Wolves for the midweek cup game last year. Thameslink very kindly cancelled every train leaving Brighton after 10:15pm, so I legged it out of the ground on 85 minutes when Brighton scored their third.

Men, women and children were also all running for the train station. I missed Wolves' second consolation goal, but was towards the front of the queue for the trains to Brighton. Looking down the platform while we waited, a huge queue built up after the final whistle, some of ours said it took the best part of an hour to fully clear. Stewards will prevent overcrowding on the platform too.
I also went to that game and with it being a midweek, would have been a lot worse than normal.

This season, the trains have been a lot better, I’d just encourage anyone not in a rush, to stick around after the game and have a beer.

I used to visit every year in the 80s and 90s when I was living in London. Good day out, seeing the beach then off to the match. Think we did quite well. Only 1 defeat IIRC.

Also remember there was a flat near the main train station which had a SAFC badge on the window. Wonder if anyone knows who it was?

Thanks for all the helpful info. My sister lived in Hove (actually) for 10 years always loved visiting the area. I’m staying 3 nights in Brighton got the Bootleg Beatles booked up on the Saturday night after the game at the Brighton Centre.

Did Brighton and Hove used to be different places but now they aren’t?

Revert back is a tautology.

I have a question 🙋🏻‍♂️

Why, when the football stadium has its own dedicated railway station, is the station named ‘Falmer’ instead of being named after the ground?
I agree with you. They should have called it The Amex Station. That’s clearly the most logical answer for a station in Falmer.

Went to the cup game in 2011. Remember a Brighton fan saying the novelty of having a new stadium had attracted a lot of families and people who weren't really into football, which was quite obvious en route to the ground. Then another Brighton fan asking who our manager was and they'd never heard of Steve Bruce when I told them but weirdly asked if we meant Bruce Rioch. Steve Bruce started with Sess up front then brought Gyan and Ji on late on but blamed the defeat on the strikers for missing chances. Match was shit and we lost. Otherwise an enjoyable trip.
