Brennan Johnson (signed for Palace)

Odd one this.

His production is (very) good and they're selling him at a loss.

Wonder what has gone on?
Spurs fans seem have mixed views on him - he can score goals but lacks the aggression and commitment needed at this level - seems to be the view.

£35m man, and that is why we will continue to look abroad. He’s a decent player not £35m worth.
He's way more productive than anything we can play out wide
He’d cost almost twice what our most expensive wide player did as well so I’d hope so. I don’t think he fits the model or the work rate needed to play in this system. It’s his attitude that I’ve seen questioned by spurs fans.

And produces twice as much.

Will he in our system? I mean it’s moot anyway as we wouldn’t spend that much and he won’t want to come here but I’m not sure. Granted he hasn’t exactly been given a lot of game time for spurs but he hasn’t set the world alight either when he has.

I think way to much is made of what systems players can and can't play. I don't see anything in his game that would stop him doing a good job for us. As you say irrelevant though

Talbi has 2 goals and 2 assists in 887 mins in PL for us this season
Johnson has 2 goals an 0 assists in 601 mins this season in the PL for Spurs

The former is 4 years younger cost half the amount. Then Johnson at the same age as Talbi was on loan at Lincoln against us in League One.

This is an interesting sample size to use for Brennan Johnson. Do you think Talbi's numbers will be better than Johnson's from now till the end of next season out of interest?

Last season in 51 appearances he scored 18 goals and got 7 assists. Play regularly and he produces. Our wide men won't get 18 between them this season imo

However your small sample size trumps everything

He has every chance especially if he doesn’t get a move as he doesn’t get much game time. I think he’s started to look the part before the afcon. Really think by the time tailbi is Johnson’s age we will be seeing him sold for more than what Johnson goes for in this window.

£35 mil is a gamble on any player

Lots of examples of PL players that haven't found the same form at another club after a big money move.

The poster said that Johnson will provide double the output of the players we have for double the money.

It's only fair to compare sample size that a similar type of player that cost half the amount from abroad has been in the league together.

It's simply not a fair comparison size.
£35m for a bloke who scored 18 last season seems to be pretty cheap tbh.

He'll be on around 150k a week, maybe even more. Add to that the 35m transfer, and a hefty signing on fee and it doesn't strike me as good value for his output. Got to question why Spurs are so keen to cut him loose too.
Because they bought Kudus, Tel and Simons in the summer.

And they’ve got Kulusevski and Maddison to come back from injury still. Odobert starting to progress as well

Basically, if you add Bergvall and Richarlison, they’ve got about a million wide forwards.

I agree on the second half

We're not in a position to be lobbing in £35mil bids in Jan just yet though.

I don't think our board will be doing anything like that and I'm fine with it.

Seems to have a few offers so could even end up at a European club. Palace would be a good choice but what if he is worried about Glasner leaving at the end of the season? He would be great for us but can't see us paying 35 million for him. He is very fast so would suit our style...see if we find a cheaper version.

Talbi's shown absolutely nothing to suggest he'll get near Johnson's numbers. One of his 'assists' was him picking the wrong pass when three on one against Wolves and then f***ing the pass so badly that it went nowhere near the intended target and the defender accidentally kicked it in his own net from twenty five yards.

He was the worst player on the pitch in the first half against Bournemouth so I'm not sure when you think he played well. That second Bournemouth goal was disgraceful. The simple pass he fucked up to Xhaka to kill our attack and then the simple ball miles behind Traore to send them through was appalling. Won't get into the way he got brushed off the ball for Liverpool's goal either.
