Brendon McCullum

The Rat

Striker
Looks like Kirsten will miss out for a 3rd time, surprising as he is appointing people to run his academy when away...

Surprised by this, its a gamble but I do like it

Sound bloke, good cricketing brain and always very clear about he wants to do. Good at identifying talent too.

I do believe the test side needs to be a bit bolder, we got extremely timid the last 2 years

Different newspapers are saying contender or favourite cos he's the only one that's known to have an interview. Loads online says he should be ODI coach and not test coach. A big bould move that if Rob Key goes down that root

Surprising as you'd think he would be more suited to the white ball side of things but I think he's a great bloke, was a sound captain and one of my favourite cricketers to watch in the last decade.

My only concern would be that we may end up going back to the Bayliss years of a shot a ball but I would like to think McCullum is smart enough to find the right balance.

I mean that’s not what happened under Bayliss like

He never lost a home series by the way
Are there any domestic coaches being interviewed?

For white ball yeah

I’m not bothered about English coaches like the last 2 have been poor

Colly could do the white ball stuff albeit I think we need someone who can challenge Morgan not just facilitate him as he’s been making some strange calls lately
Brendon McCullum set to be named England men's Test coach

Fair play Key

Gamble but he is young and a good cricket brain , very intrigued by this choice and I’m impressed we are going for such a different idea of our normal choice

We were definitely a bit too attacking at times though, not saying he was a bad coach at all but there were times when a more restrained approach was needed in a particular situation. Gone too far the other way under Silverwood though.

Yeah but it was still overplayed like, shot a ball just wasn’t true was it

We had normal openers apart from literally one series with Roy
Would prefer the experience of Kirsten but don't mind this at all. Intriguing.

Think I prefer this appointment actually

Must be a reason Kirsten has been out of the international circuit for 10 years

Think it’s a good fit with stokes

Corncern would be morgs power in the short form with McCullum. Definitely feels hes on borrowed time with T20

What do you mean by concern? The two of them are good friends and Morgan credits McCullum for shaping a lot of his thinking on one day cricket. Or is that your concern?

Whichever role, I'd be happy with McCullum being appointed, a tough little nugget who has definitely helped shape the ethos of NZ cricket during his time as captain.
