I've been told that Breese and Muchall are to get a joint benefit from DCCC next year. It'll be interesting too see whether this is in recompense for a reduced contract as I've also been told that the wage bill has to be slashed.

Who else is out of contract Colonel?
Not sure of the entire list but I was told that:

1. The wage bill has to be slashed from £1.8m down to as little as £1m
2. I believe that Stokes and Borthwick are 2 who will be out of contract

Clearly there may well be some unfamiliar faces in the Durham lineup next year eg Arshad, Singh etc.

If he wants to progress as a leg spinner he would be better off moving on imo.

I'd like to see Richardson in his position at 3 aswell.

Id just offer them both a T20 contract only next season. Neither offer anything to our 4day team imho & i cant see either getting "snapped up" by another county if we offer to release them.

I'd like to see Breese given a contract. Not arsed about Muchall.

The club really MUST do everything they can to keep Borthwick and Stokes. These lads are hugely talented and could potentially be the next Durham lads to become captain or even play for England (more so Stokes with that one).

Hopefully ECB contracts will help us out with Onions and Stokes if they progress over the winter.

Finally some genuinely deserved benefit years. Two lads who have served the club very well and for whom a benefit year could come in handy for their years after cricket

It is a sickener but i can't see how we can keep a hold of Borthwick and Stokes. There is no doubt the wage bill needs to be slashed but other than Harmy which other big earners are out of contract at at the end of the season, unless Colly and Benks are going to call time a year early which seems very unlikely.

Borthwick needs to move on if he's going to do anything in the game and that's the bitter truth.

Isn't Breese already on a one-day contract with a pay-as-you-play kind of deal for the the longer stuff? I'd keep him around myself. Isn't he involved with the youths along with Job Lewis? If he is, reason enough to keep him.

I like Muchall but if he's out of contract he needs to agree a lower deal or be released. Imagine he'd be snapped up by a Div 2 club if we get rid.

Stokes will be given an incremental contract by England so his wage will be shared. Whether that's at Durham or elsewhere remains to be seen.

Gordon Muchall should be proud of the fact he has managed to carve a career out as a batsmen with the talent he has.

Far far better batsmen have been peddled after 2 or 3 seasons at DCCC yet Gordon has managed to stick around for yonks.

I fully appreciate he has been one of our better limited overs batsmen for the past 2 years but other than that, he has been truely dogshit & imho his stats back that up.

agreed on stokes, but in the case of borthwick if he wants to improve as a leggy and have a chance of playing for england he'd be best off moving.

The club seems to have distanced themselves from Harmys benefit, offering only minimal participation. I'd be very surprised if they awarded benefits for anyone else in the near future.
If its true, then good luck to both of them, but I seriously doubt it, especially as there's no decisions been made on whether or not one or both will still play some part in next seasons plans yet.

The vast majority of supporters also seemed to have distanced themselves from Harmi's benefit functions-I'd love to know how many attended his pre-Ashes Test dinner-only celebs their were his mate Freddie and Darren Lehman.
There's a world of difference between Harmis contribution and commitment to the club and that of Breese and Muchall.

I agree, benefits were supposed to be for the likes of Breese and Muchall, pros who gave excellent service to their counties for many years, and not for the ex England pros like Harmy who can make a living outside the game. I just don't think it will happen for Breese and Muchall, Thorps not getting one, and he's played a bigger part in the successes Durham have had than either Breese or Muchall.
