Boycott Qatar

Should they have got it in the first place: No
Have there been human rights issues: Of course
Will I watch: Of course

It’s done now, we are playing there, we have known for years, if we qualified we would.

Will me watching affect any of this now: No

See I think the opposite, before any country had actaully qualified it would be empty to boycott it. Once the line up is confirmed and teams are qualified, boycotting after that would be monumental

I'd absolutely love England, lead by Henderson, to be the first to do it.

My only worry would be where does it end.. someone could easily make a case against the USA world cup in 2026 if the wording of the boycott was ambiguous

Confused by your post mate. Really not sure which way you feel

What I mean is it would have been very difficult for any team or player to announce they are boycotting it , when no one was actually guaranteed to qualify or be picked.

Now teams and players are starting to take shape and be confirmed, its now actaully possible for a team or player to boycott it..

I hope we are something happen

I was wholly unconvinced the kneeling was anything but political theatre, that cost them nothing. But was always willing to concede, the moral high ground they're certainly did occupy very stridently. The progressive left were right alongside them every step of the way and reinforced the political action, but that was also denied.

What amuses me greatly is if the world cup was in Israel, you can be certain the left would be decrying the team. But the left is not ignorant and are wholly aware of the Qataris, but simply don't care and the money men have no intention of rocking the boat and the volume of hypocrisy is appalling and amusing to me.
Plenty on the left are against Qatar. I assumed nearly all those moaning about the world cup there are on the left.

Actually if viewer ratings are down FIFA will take note of that.

I've not seen many of them stand in the door on the issue, or launch the usual twitter storm that the media seems so sensitive too. Go through the 10 pages of this thread and you will find a fair amount of triggered people leaping to defend the kneeling, despite that not actually being the topic at all.

The England Team chose to become politically active and take the moral high ground and you can't then switch it off when they're choose, because they're are set to make a packet.
Won't go, won't support it, won't be sharing on social media platforms and think Beckham is whoring himself.

It was a blatant brown envelopes job when they got it and it's went rapidly downhill since then. Anyone with any sense should save their money for Euro 2024 in Germany.
I've being to most Gulf states at one time or other and its absolutely astonishing to see modern slavery in operation and so many of the great and good, or the anti-racist mob aren't protesting at all and demanding the players do the honorable thing and stand against racism.

I would never go as I don’t like the regime but I will watch some of the games as I like football. I’ll watch England until we get knocked out but I won’t watch any game just because there is a match on.

It’s not much of a stand really I admit

by making an anti-racist gesture?

you can keep repeating that little phrase over and over and over, it doesn't mean it will eventually become the 'truth'

the only people to bring the taking-the-knee issue into this thread is people who are against it. in your mind all you see is 'lefties' being 'triggered' by it. i've re-read the thread and there isn't a single instance of that.

separating the two issues would be the smartest thing any one could do who truly wants to boycott Qatar

Why are people getting angry over players taking the knee when it's not even relevant to the topic to hand

Blatter at his "finest".
And this is where the blame for the whole sorry mess should lie.
Jordan spoke up a little bit about Saudi takeover and when it went through he was up scum land hosting a live "let's lick the mags hoops" show. Hes a hypocrite also.
Bad move from DB, imho.
Its not like he needs the money.
I live there now and it's starting to cool down massively this month, so December will be fine. Extreme heat not an issue at all.
If they can hold a WC in Mexico in June, they can certainly hold one in Qatar in Nov/Dec.

Morning all!

Had an interesting chat with some mates last night about a potential fan led boycott of Qatar 2022. Writing this really just to gauge people’s opinions and to see if there would ever be sufficient support for it to be a realistic option.

The horrific human right abuses of workers getting the stadiums ready in time for the tournament are well documented and in many cases amounted to modern day slavery. Many lost their lives.

Could we collectively say enough is enough and ask the question to what depths is society willing to sink in order to promote the game we all love? These questions won’t be asked loudly at the top with so much money involved. What a huge statement it would make if broadcasters and sponsors were boycotted during the games. Something that could potentially trigger similar movements in areas other than football where corruption and human right abuses are rife.

I’d imagine for most, not watching England in a major tournament is unthinkable. Would an option be for one match to be boycotted? Something everyone could get on board with to send a strong message. Or at the very least show the families of those who died building the stadiums that there are people on the other side of the world who give a shit.

Like I said this isn’t a call to arms. Just a way of gaging opinion. If it is generally positive there’s no reason other forums can’t be contacted to see if something meaningful can be put together. With OTIB leading the way!

Have a good football less weekend. We all needed a break!

Its a good test to see if football fans are genuine about the scum takeover. If people watch the World Cup held by a similar regime they are just as bad as the great unwashed. Unfortunately I have no morals and would have taken their money if offered, so I will be watching the England games at least.
