Sport is apolitical and its what I and a small number of others were arguing about England all along and its adoption of pet political causes has opened it up to the charge of hypocrisy, when it doesn't follow the high noble values in something that will cost them personally... Anyone whose ever being to the Gulf is wholly aware how racist a place it is and those 6k dead workers weren't Qatari Citizens and were expendable guest workers that are treated as little more than modern day slaves.
 
Personally can’t wait for the World Cup and I’m not boycotting it. What a build up to Xmas next year, it will be sensational

Of course it's not apolitical and it can't be apolitical as long as there are international competitions.

There is a decent chance they just wont qualify anyway so could be a moot point they made. They have the Netherlands away and a win would guarantee them a play of spot or they are relying on getting a better result than turkey who are away to Montenegro. Could still win group like if both happen

Hypocrisy is a poison and once drank you can never wholly go back to the way it was before. Unlike the players, I actually don't practice kneeling or any other theatre and will boycott Qatar because football was already lost, but is now spiralling down the drain.

My thoughts exactly , it's a disgrace that the tournament was awarded to Qatar in the first place. That crook Blatter and his pal Platini have since been charged with corruption . Will league's 2 and National League still be running during the WC month ? if they are I will be watching those.

Since when was protesting against racism anything to do with politics ?

Sterling and saka etc.. have received racial abuse, they have the right to make an anti racism gesture at any time they like. It's has got absolutely zero to do with politics

I suppose taking the knee is not seen as a wider geo-political issue because it is the England players themselves who are being directly abused by racists online. So it is to campaign against something being targeted at the players themselves directly, rather than making a foreign policy or international relations statement. If the UK government and society is happy with Qatar investing in the UK, Qatar airways being everywhere, athletics world champs being there all the time etc then why should the England players speak out?
